I was looking into getting an HRM. Can I get one without the chest strap? I've heard they're more accurate but they're so uncomfortable (the ones i've tried)...

Does anyone have advice? Any advice is welcome. Brands, strap/no strap, what to look for, etc.

I believe the ones that don't require a strap (if they're are any... not sure) are considerably more expensive. I bought a Polar RS100 and I love it. I'm fairly big chested and I don't find it uncomfortable at all to wear right below my sports bra. The material on the strap is very smooth, you just need to make sure you don't wear it too tight. It just needs to stay on, not squeeze you. Hope that helps!

If you want to use it for calorie calculation you must have a strap. Without the strap is it so inaccurate that it is not worth the money, and you would be just as accurate guessing. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Azdak/view/the-real-facts-about-hrms-and-calories-what-you-need-to-know-before-purchasing-an-hrm-or-using-one-21472 has good information. Frankly, you only wear the strap when you are working out. What is a little discomfort for that little bit of time.

I bought a Polar FT4 with a chest strap. The strap is adjustable and I don't feel it at all. I've been wearing it since I was over 300 pounds and it was even adjustable enough to be comfortable at that size.

The ones without a strap are a total waste of money. I have a Garmin FR60 and can't even feel the strap. They're around $80 on heartratemonistorsusa.com.

I have the Polar FT4 and love it....except I keep getting chafed!!!

I first thought it was too tight, so I loosened it. Then I thought it was the position (I had it right under my bra strap). So yesterday I moved it up to between the girls and the strap. Last night I noticed each of my girls is chafed on the underside (and bad)!

If I could figure this out, I'd love my Polar even more!

But yeah...BIG difference between calorie counts on my chest HRM vs my old wrist one.
