If you have a strong feeling you're going to stumble into the kitchen in a half-asleep state when self control is especially difficult, it can be useful to simply leave room in your calorie budget for the day.

I find high fiber low calorie snacks to be very helpful.

Its tough it really is i have this problem too. I can and will tell you what i do to fight the late night munchies but they don't always work. Some nights they work other nights they do not. What i do is find a low calorie high volume snack, something with low calories that is very filling. Some food that i choose are: shelled sunflower seeds, vegetables (carrots, cauliflower, cucumber, etc.), fruit cups with light syrup (my fave is peach slices), protein powder shake and rice cakes.

Another little thing i do is drink sparkling water, for some reason the bubbles seem to fill me up.

You need to figure out why you are waking up in the middle of the night.
Hunger? You need to up your calories during the day.
Are you drinking caffeine after 4pm? Chocolate has caffeine.
Exercising too late in the day can also keep some people awake.
