What about just oil and salt and roast them hot? Not much can beat plain roasted chicken wings, imo. Then you can dip them in whatever.0

I hate eating wings out.
If I look for generic values for chicken wings, the calorie count ranges from 60 calories a wing to over 200!!!
But yeah, last week when I went for wings, and ate 48, I took the most innocuous ones, "salt and pepper" so the previous member has it right.1 -
This is what my husband and I do: Season raw wings with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Rub the spices into the skin so that they stick. Place on a broiler pan (or whatever contraption you can come up with) which will let the fat drain away from the wings - this helps the wings to get nice and crispy all over, plus fewer calories. Bake in an oven preheated to 450F for 40-60 minutes, or until golden brown/juices run clear. Instead of tossing the wings in a butter/hot sauce mixture, we dash on some straight hot sauce, which also saves on calories. They're not saucy this way, though the flavor is the same, so it's a good option for when I really want wings but am fine with a lighter version. Just be careful with the hot sauce, haha! You can also use the same basic process for drier-style wings, like lemon pepper, cajun, Jamaican jerk, etc. Just rub your seasoning mixture into the wings the same way as above, and no sauce after baking. Hope that helps!2

So can i make a dipping sauce with texas pete, Frank's, etc? Maybe a little ranch? Anyone have a wing they recommend? You buy fresh out of your grocers meat dept or get a frozen plain wing? Thanks for advice guys. And I'm not sure i could kill 48, but 20 likely not an issue. Haha0

Oops, meant 425!0

These take a bit of extra effort, but taste amazing (I used a pressure cooker to steam)

I've made these with all kinds of sauces, not just the Chili in the recipe.
ETA: For a great low-cal dipping sauce with traditional buffalo seasoned wings, try Bolthouse Farms Blue Cheese yogurt dressing.0 -

Fat free ranch or hot sauce to dip in

Ok, this isnt really wings, but it stops my craving for them.
I steam a bag of frozen cauliflower and then mix 1tbspn melted butter with 2 tablespoons hot sauce. If iwant ranch, I will mix in 2 tablespoons of ranch too. Mix it into the cauliflower and eat!
The dollar tree also carries a buffalo sauce that is pretty good, and calorie free too.2 -
I haven't made chicken wings at home in years, but when I did, it was once a week and I'd cook up about 5 pounds at a time. Did it in the broiler until they got as crisps as I liked and then shook Hot Sauce over them. We still preferred blue cheese dressing and celery sticks over any other sides with them.0

we use a bottle of light Italian dressing and 3/4 bottle of hot sauce. place wings on sheets and baste. I don't remember what we bake it at but at 45 minutes we drain the sauce and flip the wing. we baste the other side with the rest of the sauce and put it under the broiler until crispy. I like to season with salt and pepper.0

Or, you could go to a place called Buffalo Wild Wings (one in our area).
Traditional plat of jumbo wings
3,420 calories,
* The place is always packed to the brim.0 -
I like to use a dry rub on them and bake them for 30 min and then finish them on the gas grill so they get nice and smoky and crispy! No sauce needed!1

I just toss the wings in the oven, plain as they are, flip them after 15 minutes, add whatever hot sauce I prefer when they're done, and get at it. Unfortunately, I'm currently having trouble finding new sauces that don't have a bunch of crap added to them. I want hot sauce, not mildly spicy ketchup.0

To get wings crispy w/o lots of breading, I like to toss a tablespoon of baking powder onto the wings into a large freezer bag and then shake it up. Lay on a rack and bake in the oven.1

Another +1 for this method.
And, if you like sweet/hot/sour/sticky wings as a change-up from buffalo-style, you can mix fruit jam with sriracha or other chile sauce/paste and vinegar (should still be fairly thick) and glaze the wings with that before broiling. Those won't need a dipping sauce.2 -
Brush lightly with oil, season with salt and pepper. Roast until cooked but not browned. Brush or dip in sauce made from Franks RedHot and brown sugar (to taste but more sweet than tart). Return to the oven and roast until the sauce is sticky and tips are crispy.
No, it isn't healthy. Wings aren't healthy. But they're worth every delicious, tangy, spicy calorie and fat gram!!!1
