Struggle with sweets/treats

It really does seem so easy, I start each day saying I will not eat sweets today and by mid-afternoon I am telling myself I can have just a little bit and that little bit seriously turns into a good 500-1000+ calories a day in sweets.
Tonight I went ahead and cleared my house of the sweets and candy, which was a lot more than I even realized I had in the house. Really posting to vent my frustrations in myself, I have broken the sugar habit before and lost weight due to it but then slowly start on the daily, excessive eating of sweets. It should be easy to only have a little bit but I have not gotten to that point yet. And I know the sugar is terrible for me, I feel like crap after eating all of it and my A1C test a few months back was .10 under being pre-diabetic.
Well, here is to a new day and all my other sugar addicts, and I know you are out there, let's stand together and take one day at a time. I will start over one million times if it means I will succeed once

I can eat a lot of cake. I just don't buy it or bake it. Same with pretty much anything from cookies to gummies to chocolate. Even if I have one serving and feel fine, at some point, if there's a bag or box in the house, I'm going to give in and go beyond my goal for the day.
I did have one serving of gummy worms today. I shared the bag, so there was no chance for me to go beyond the portion I weighed out. I had a big cupcake last week. Small quantities purchased at a time with a little planning ahead is what I do. Still no baking, though. That's a problem for the future.
I do love fruit now, though! It's sweet and delicious, and I don't feel the same urge to go crazy on it. Late at night, if something sugary is calling my name, and I open the fridge....I'm going to find peaches. That helps, lol.
I have started keeping no sugar added/light ice cream around since ice cream was never a big deal for me. I can keep a couple quarts in the freezer without any issues.0 -
If it doesn't work to say "I will not have sweets today," have you tried saying "These are the sweets I will have today," planning for what fits in your goals, and then seeing if it is easier to stick to it when you allow yourself to have something you enjoy everyday and know you will have it again tomorrow?
When I tell myself "Never," it doesn't work. But when I choose a reasonable amount, I have success sticking to it.
This may not work for you, I'm just sharing what has worked for me.2 -

You know, I have never actually tried it that way. I have tried the not today, the not until the weekend, and the only one piece/one cookie/etc and none have worked for too long. So I will give that a shot.0 -

I used to struggle with controlling my eating and this has worked really well for me. Good luck!0 -

I was having the same problem cessi is having. Someone gave me this same advice and it was so helpful. Buying "better" sweets and planning for it as a part of your counting is much more manageable. I am such a sweet tooth. There's no way I can go cold turkey. At least not yet anyway. So I like the way you put it: these are the ones I'm allowed to have today.

I don't buy the sweets. If there's nothing here, I won't eat it. The sweetest thing I have on hand is Fiber 1 snacks that are chocolate. On the other hand, that doesn't work for my hubby. He would get in the car and go buy what he wants. Ultimately, you have to decide if it's worth having diabetes??1

I have quite a sweet tooth as well - part of what got me to this weight was a dessert after almost every meal!
I have been eating a high protein diet and I have found that it has really helped with my cravings. Has been a month and a half and I really don't crave sweets much at all anymore. If I do, a fruit flavored life saver takes care of it!0
