I keep getting told that pasta and anything made out of wheat will ruin my diet. I'm vegan so if i cut those out I'll only be eating fruits and vegetables. HELP PLEASE.

eating more calories than you burn in a day makes you fat. types of foods don't make you fat.16

Log your intake in the food diary here on MFP. If you have set an appropriate calorie goal, log correctly, and hit calorie goal, you will lose weight. You can eat anything you want. To be able to hit your calorie goal and feel your best, your food preferences may change a bit, though.0

Losing weight is all about calorie deficit. Some people choose to eliminate whole food groups to accomplish that, but it's not necessary.
You can eat foods you enjoy and still lose weight. You just have to account for those foods. Elimination diets don't work for me. I need to figure out portion control for all the foods I eat.....not just the "diet" foods I eat.0 -
my mother who is Italian (i am too but shes real Italian haha) eats pasta everyday and risotto (rice) almost everyday and she has been 110 her whole life. she is a perfect example of cico.6

Carbs are not evil.. LOL
What packs pounds on your body is eating more calories than you burn in a day as it was already said. You can eat all of the same foods you enjoy right now, just eat less of them.. Eat the amounts of these foods that are within your MFP calorie bank each day and you will loose weight.. It really is just that simple!1 -
Weight management is about energy balance, not whether or not you eat pasta or rice...a calorie is a unit of energy...you consume more energy than your body requires, that excess energy is stored as body fat...you consume less energy than you require and body fat is oxidized to make up the energy deficiency...body fat is just stored energy. It has nothing to do with rice or pasta or carbs in general...the whole carbs are the devil thing is just the latest dietary fad...nothing more, nothing less...pretty soon some other macro will be the devil and carbs will be the bees knees...do't pay attention to dietary fads...they're just fads...and they're ever changing.
Just keep it simple...because really, it is all very, very simple.2 -
Every time someone asks if Rice will make them fat, I look people in places like China and Japan and ask, why the hell aren't you all fat? lol
Oh wait, it's because rice doesn't MAKE YOU FAT.4 -
Calories in vs. calories out is the main thing, if you eat pasta - so be it. Since you're vegan, that's a little difficult.
Personally, I don't think you should waste your calories on pasta - but if you're perfectly satiated with it and you're at a calorie deficit because your goal is to lose weight, then go right ahead!
Some people have food intolerances and are intolerant to wheat. If you're intolerant, it can cause systemic inflammation which throws your body out of whack, cause all kinds of problem, and makes you retain water. AKA if pasta makes you feel bad, don't eat it.
Just listen to your body.0 -

It always blows my mind how no one takes this logical step by looking at the real world rather than just listening to some guy who wrote a book on Dr. Oz.4 -
They're totally fine, you just have to be really careful with portion control... it's very easy to overeat 200+ calories of pasta if you're not careful.0

Echoing others by saying you can eat whatever you want and lose weight as long as you're at a calorie deficit however, whole grain pastas and rice keeps you fuller for longer.1

Whole wheat pasta - I can eat much less, and it keeps me full longer.
Same with brown rice.2 -
Totally fine. I love pasta, and I find it super filling, so it's one of my most common things to eat. Down 120 lb as of this morning, and I think I had something made from wheat on virtually every day while losing that weight.1

It's not what you eat that makes you fat - it's how much you eat.0

If it's worked for you so far, there's no reason to stop eating pasta or wheat. But just for sake of variety you might explore other grains, pseudo-grains, beans, lentils, seeds, etc. There are so many wonderful plants to be eaten!0

You stole that from the great Dr. John McDougall! He tells it a little better tbh.0
