I'm new to the Message Boards. I started changing my life on December 26, 2010. Since then, I've lost 101 lbs. I sitll have 62 lbs. left to go, but I'm on my way. Still, I think that the more support you have, the better!

Question...do you tell new people that you meet about your weight loss? I go from being proud of my accomplishment to being embarrassed I was that out-of-control. Does anyone have any thoughts?

  • I am new to this site but really want to start changing my eating habits. I am so bad at eating sugary snacks... Out of control.... Any thoughts?:smile:

The best thing that I heard so far is someone trying to help me asked what my food "says" to me. At first I thought she was crazy, but she continued...what does your food say? Does it tell you that you deserve it because you work hard or are stressed? I love you? I'm there for you? It's going to be okay?

When I thought about this when I went to eat the wrong things or over-indulge, I realized that anything my food may have been saying/promising was a lie. Food can't make you feel better for real (although you may feel good for the moment). And if I did mistreat my body, I was only going to be more miserable. I looked at myself as a true addict.

So I decided right then and there not to let food control me any more. Now I reward myself with manicures or pedicures and tons of new clothes (I've dropped 10 sizes). And if my food tries to talk to me, I ignore it!

    Good luck on your journey.

I have people at work always asking me what I'm doing to lose weight, and they actually seem disappointed when I tell them I count calories and exercise. Like there is some magical thing I'm doing. I would not hesitate to tell people about the weight loss - it's going to come up sometime if they ever see old pictures of you. You should be very proud of your 101 lb loss. I hope to join you there and more some day.
