Does anyone have any info on the salt/sodium content in Movie Theatre Popcorn?
I have loaded different choices from those available but none of them show any salt/sodium content. I had a med bag tonight and I could taste the salt.
As I am on a sodium reduced diet I want to get an idea of how bad a decision it was to have eaten the popcorn tonight.

idk if you are going to be able to find anything you can use reliably. i remember watching a news report about how movie theatres don't have to do any kind of nutrition listings because they aren't restaurants, and really don't want people to know, and yet nutrition experts want the gov't to make them list their stuff. they had examples of popcorn being really really high cal wise, and saying that you are better off buying the bagged name brand candy if you must get something. lol. i would say just find the highest cal microwave popcorn and use that, it won't be perfect, but it should give you an idea on what the sodium level could be around.0

Same problem here as well, so I just choose the worst one on the list that way the decision to eat it again is less attractive to me as it throws everything out of whack.0

It depends on the theatre chain. All are different. I googled it and checked out a few different sites and got numbers ranging from 200 in a small to 1050 in a large with a couple stating around 450 in a medium, but it depends on the theatre. If your sodium-restricted, I wouldn't make a habit of it! And don't forget to drink lots of water tomorrow!0

I found this article that might help. It seems every theater is a bit different...

Man I will never eat it again is all I can say. I think at least half a thigh is movie theatre popcorn now  ! Oh well... Last time I had a KIDS size popcorn, I kid you not, it wasn't much bigger than a microwave popcorn bag, I thought, how bad could it be? HA! Next day I had put on ___4___ pounds... I could not have been more shocked.
I found this article on WebMD http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/news/20091119/movie-theater-popcorn-a-calorie-bomb
It quotes:
"Researchers found movie theater popcorn offerings range from 400 to 1,200 calories, with one to three days' worth of saturated fat and up to 1,500 milligrams of sodium. Make it a combo and add 300 to 1,110 empty calories worth of candy and another 150 to 500 calories from a sugary soft drink to wash it all down."
It goes on.. much to my own detriment.. *sighs* NO wonder we all love it so much. It's so very bad for us.0 -
Did you try contacting the theater to see if they have nutritional information for their concession stands?0

Contact Guest Services for information about other concession items at guestservices@cineplex.com or phone 1-800-333-0061 Option 8. :bigsmile:0

My husband is the GM in a movie theatre, and has worked for several different chains. I can't add to much to the above, except this:
1-They are all different. They all pop in different oils, and use different salts. They can also change salts at any time, depending on the vendor, etc. So the answer you get today could be very different for tomorrow's movie. There have been days when my husband has had to run to the restaurant supply to get some salt, because a delivery truck broke down on the freeway and couldn't deliver. So he just grabbed what was on the shelf.
2-If the GM is nice like my husband, s/he will get you the nutritional info, if you ask. My husband is ALWAYS very helpful to anyone who requested nutritional info, because there are so many who need kosher, or gluten free, or vegan, etc. It's just good business, and also - it's good human-ness.0
