Personnally, I like to run to old 80s rock. As a drummer I find myself trying to stay in step with the beat and anything too fast and I end up sprinting.

The other thing is to check out streaming music like Pandora. They let you customize by genre and you can like/dislike by song. Then go back later and get a list of songs you like!

    Fun upbeat songs:

Katrina and the Waves, Walking on Sunshine
    Jane's Addiction, Been Caught Stealin'
    Motley Crüe, Kickstart My Heart
    Anything by the Ramones.

My husband cringes every time I add another one to the ipod, but 90's dance tunes get me moving! My favourites are:
It Takes Two - Rob Base
    U Can't Touch This - MC Hammer
Good Vibrations - Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch
Rhythm is a Dancer - SNAP!
Just typing this has put me in the mood for a run!

gosh I just put my Ipod on shuffle and listen to whatever comes up. Sometimes I have to hit next for speed, etc but sometimes hearing a good old 80s song or a get moving song takes my mind off the work and I enjoy hearing an oldie once in a while. If I get caught up in the song, I don't think about how much further or how tired I am.

I love music of all types. Depends on my mood! I have a few favorites...but in addition to the regular "hit songs" a lot of people listed (incl anything by Akon or Lady Gaga). I have a few odd ones:

MTV Mash Ups....great songs that are a blend of 2. (Lynryrd Skynyrd vs Nelly, Sweet Home for example)

Pirates of the Caribbean....I'm in symphony and we played this last year. I LOVE the score. And it's great running music...plus I "hear" my part and it makes time go so fast. Actually any fast song we've done can do this.

For some reason...when ZZ Top's Afterburner CD was MADE for running. It has the perfect tempo for it and the songs just work for it. So when one of those songs come up, time flies. It's not typical ZZ Top music but when it comes up I get going.

Cross Canadian Ragweed....one of those groups not a lot of people know. Southern Rock but they have great jamming tunes.
  • Seether - Pig
    Shinedown- Shed Some Light
Breaking Benjamin- I will not Bow
    Chevelle-Send the Pain Below
Puddle of Mudd- Drift and Die
    Parabelle- The Clocks

Just a few! Rock really gets me moving and so motivated to kick some butt! It brings out my eager to crush a run mentality!
Good luck with all your goals girl!

Forgot to post one of my FAVORITE warmup songs! It always gets me in the right frame of mind before I go bust some burn.

It's Bruno Mars' "Today My Life Begins". I'll post lyrics below...

I've been working hard so long
Seems like pain has been my only friend
My fragile heart's been done so wrong
I wondered if I'd ever heal again

Ohh just like all the seasons never stay the same
All around me I can feel a change (ohh)

I will break these chains that bind me, happiness will find me
Leave the past behind me, today my life begins
A whole new world is waithing it's mine for the taking
I know I can make it today my life begins

    Yesterday has come and gone
And I've learn how to leave it where it is
And I see that I was wrong
For ever doubting I could win

Ohh just like all the seasons never stay the same
All around me I can feel a change (ohh)

I will break these chains that bind me happiness will find me
Leave that past behind me today my life begins
A whole new world is waiting its mine for the taking
I know I can make it today my life begins

Life's to short to have regrets
So I'm learning now to leave it in the past and try to forget
Only have one life to live
So you better make the best of it

I will break these chains that bind me happiness will find me
Leave the past behind me today my life begins
A whole new world is waiting its mine for the taking
I know I can make it today my life begins
