Had a health scare recently so need to lose weight

I've had MFP for a while now but only just started using it as recently I was having chest pains and I get out of breath very easily so really need to lose a lot of weight the only thing is I'm disabled and due to chronic back pain find it difficult to walk very far before the pain gets too much.

I've been dieting for just over a week now taking smaller portion sizes eating a lot less sweets and crisps than I used to
(I could demolish a 6 pack of crisps in a day but now only take one pack a day sometimes none) drinking more water and eating more fruit and I have lost 3lb in the past week.

I think my biggest problem is the exercise as I don't like going out on my own and my wife and daughter don't always want to go out with me, I've done a couple of short walks (0.5 and 0.6 miles) this week and want to try more and going further but as I said the pain is what is stopping me so i'm just wondering if anyone else has the same problems as me exercising and any advice that would maybe help me.

Sorry if this doesn't make sense it's my 1st post here and I don't know how to explain my situation properly.

I totally understand your post! I'm a type 2 diabetic with chronic pain too. The best exercise I have found is in a pool. Less stress on your back and joints. If possible try the local Y. Look into pool physical therapy through your doctor.

I was in the ER yesterday for shortness of breath which luckily turned out being a reaction to new insulin. Scary to be sure but yes a awake up call. Both my husband and are overweight and both need to get serious. At 52 I don't want to drop because I was too lazy to do something.

Good luck to you! May you find the right method for yourself! Don't wait until your spouse or someone else can go with you. Get out there. I just informed hubby, whether he goes or not, I'm going to get moving in some way shape or form! Good luck!!!

Hi Graciedawn, thank you for your reply at the moment my weight is 24st 3lb which equates to 340.20lb, I stay in Scotland so not too sure if they have pool physio here as i've never heard of it but I will look into it.

I'm 51yrs old and like you don't want to drop any time soon as our friend/next door neighbour passed away in October and she was only 50yrs old but she had other complications with her heart and she was a big lady as well, I do try and get out even if it's just walking around my garden a few times, which is quite a big garden with the dog or down to the local park and back which is good for both myself and our dog

    Good luck to you also
