Popcorn

I put 4 TBS uncooked popcorn in a larger glass bowl with 1-1/2 tsp butter and some salt, covered it with a glass plate, cooked it in the microwave, and it's knocking my socks off! It's the most crisp popcorn I've ever had, and it tastes wonderful! Way, way better than that packaged stuff!
Months ago, I'd bought a plain bag of popcorn, froze it for a month (to prevent weevils), then put a couple bay leaves in it (further protection from weevils), and forgot about it. Still hungry after eating breakfast, I remember the popcorn, and I Sure Am Enjoying It! I admit that I am really surprised that it tastes So Much Better than those bags of popcorn, with the mystery oil & stuff in them for the microwave. Way crispier, too. I'm not doing those bags anymore!
If you do this, the bowl will be hot. Also, it stays hot a long time, keeping your popcorn pleasantly warm, unlike the bags of microwave popcorn. Expect some unpopped kernels.
Also, uncover the bowl quickly, to assure the crispness.

Love it! I have a silicone popcorn tub that we make popcorn in that is as good as air popped from the microwave (similar process as what you're doing). We don't add anything to the tub, but use parkay spray butter and herbs after it's out. So much yummier than the bagged stuff.1

I use an air popper that I found at a garage sale but I still have to add something (oil, butter, oil spray) to make the salt, herbs or flavoring "stick". Will definitely try this process to compare the crispy-ness!
Thanks for the tips on freezing and bay leaves to prevent weevils. Never even considered that!1 -
I'll never forget the day I was walking down the aisle of a grocery store, carrying a bag of popcorn, when I realized that the "kernels" inside were moving! I was a young newly-married, very uneducated about these things, and I reacted, screaming, and throwing the bag down the aisle. I made quite a scene!
Since then, I've learned to freeze my popcorn, flours, dry beans, and meals in freezer bags. (Some say that one week is enough, or one may leave them in the freezer, taking from there what is needed.) Then I store them in airtight, glass, lidded gallon jars, and add a couple bay leaves at the top. (Some, like the popcorn and beans, are in smaller glass, airtight, lidded jars.) I've recently read that one should thoroughly clean out and wash down the cabinets/cupboards/pantries, where these items are stored, then replace the bay leaves on the shelves.0 -

I'm obsessed with Dean Jacobs Tuscany Bread dipping seasoning. Its meant to go in olive oil to dip bread it, but it's awesome on everything.
