Do you lie to your food diary?

I remember when I would binge on cookies, I would only "admit" to my food diary that I had 1.
You know it's an issue when you lie to a notebook that no one but you will read! LOL
But the main problem is that I thought I was doing everything right for weight loss but I would "forget" about all of those binge episodes and only complain about the positive things I had done that weren't leading to results.
What about you?

No. Never. Because 1) my body is keeping accurate count anyway and 2) it helps me keep records of trends such as overeating after having a couple undereating days.9

No but sometimes I get very confused entering a food item because of the conflicting choices. I had 173grams salmon baked in the over without skin and I think it took me longer to finally decide on a similar salmon entry than it took me to actually eat it. I settled on 285cals.10

Ummm... Yes. I have done the same thing as you described! Also, I have started a day strong before and then screwed it all up at night and just "neglected" to finish logging for the day. Mostly due to embarrassment.
But, I went to the mall today with my kid. He wanted some ice cream, so we went to the Toll House place in the food court. I had a smoothie and mini cookies, AND I LOGGED THEM. Lol. Still have a handful of calories left after dinner in case I want something later. And I plan to go try and pump the tires on my bike up shortly to hopefully earn some of those calories back. I just keep telling myself it won't hurt anyone but me to lie about it. So everything goes in there; the good, the bad and the ugly.5 -
When I got off track last year I did, because I wanted to make it look better. Now I keep it private, so the only person who sees it is me and I can hold myself accountable better.13

No. There's no point because me lying won't change the fact that I drank 3 beers and ate an entire pint of Talenti tonight.....what?9

I try not to. I honestly believe that for this to succeed you have to be honest with yourself and if you don't record your only cheating yourself.
It's the old adage the truth will set you free. You also have to realize this is a long-term journey and not a Sprint. You'll have bad days and if you just acknowledge those bad days you'll understand why you're not succeeding the Way You Are2 -
No sometimes I don't add iced tea to it because it's just a few sips here and there so my sugar doesn't drop however sometimes it's hard to choose the correct entry for certain foods I try to use the bar code scanner as much as I can but somethings you just can't scan1

That would be like lying to myself. It would be difficult to explain certain problematic patterns and trends if I couldn't go back and look at my diary and find accurate info there. How could I make adjustments if I didn't know for sure what the problem was?0

It is one of the common reasons why people have un-explained lack of success. And it wouldn't have to even be "deliberate" like marking one cookie instead of 5.
People sometimes "lose track" and give up for the day. And either put down nothing, or 10000 calories as a quick add.
What both actions do is make the log useless as a source of information about how/why they got off-track (low day the day before, too many hours without food, trigger items, what have you)
I usually suggest to friends that they close their log until they get their logging back under control. In many cases this has helped.3 -

I've always had my diary private. I didn't think about that. I suppose one might be tempted to fudge the numbers so to speak, if they thought they'd be judged. I think I'd feel a bit naked if everything I had on MFP was on full public view. Glad you went private if that was able to help you stay honest and accountable!0 -
a) You should definitely watch Secret Eaters, you can find some episodes on YouTube
b) I kind of did this yesterday. I knowingly/purposefully had Chinese takeout for dinner. I didn't measure anything, but I tried to highball the numbers. I know I was going to be over yesterday (although I don't think I ate over maintenance), but I just really could not be effed to put more effort into it.
I do try and log my food as I eat it, though. There was definitely a day or two where I thought I was doing well and then went, "Oh crap, I totally forgot about that olive oil" and had to pace around my apartment a bit to burn it off.3 -
If I'm honest I have done but since re-starting 6 days ago I haven't. Have decided there is no point. I really want to do this properly for me this time round. :-) On that note if anyone fancies being my friend on my new journey please add me!

Nope. My diary is open to my friends and is 100% reflecting what I ate that day whether I'm on target or over/under on my calories. There's no point in omissions because they don't help. I even log chewing gum.0

Nope I log everything. Even binges. If I ate 20 cookies it's getting logged. It helps me to go back to the day in question and ask myself.... why I did that, how did I feel afterwards,etc. Revisiting those thoughts help me not to eat 20 cookies in a sitting again.0

I don't lie per se. I get lazy sometimes and couldn't be bothered getting up and weighing the portion of chips i just took out the bag that hubby is eating while we're on the couch, so i don't log it as i have no idea how much or how many calories i just ate. The only times I omit logging is when i have bits and pieces offered to me by my husband, like crackers, chips, a chocolate covered almond etc etc. So i totally blame HIM lol2

I don't lie, but get lazy sometimes. If it's something I eat regularly and say 4 ounces is 120 calories, if I weigh and only have 2.5 ounces, will just use the last entry of that item for 4. Most my diary is that way, it looks as if I eat the same portion, but if less, use the higher count. Now if the portion is actually larger, will increase the amount. I don't log my fluid, as I drink between a gallon or 2 a day, have no issues there. I also don't log vitamins or a tasting bite or sip. I don't eat back my exercise calories and usually always have 500+ there, so not a big issue.0

^^^ yes exercise calories can create a buffer. I try and leave 200-300 calories in my diary every day.0

Lying in your food diary is you lying to yourself and hindering your own weight loss progress. Your body counts the calories, so why would you lie? You're just screwing yourself over. It isn't like the only calories that get counted are the ones you log...your body KNOWS what you did last night. Also, how are you supposed to help yourself if you're not being honest with yourself? Logging that binge and logging honestly is a HUGE eye opener and it helps us to get back on track.4

I used to. Then I remembered my sister eating in secret, because she was SO tall, and a little overweight, she didn't want anyone to know how much she was eating, so she'd eat in secret, often.
I realized that not logging it wouldn't make me thinner, but logging might help me learn what works, and where i can make changes.
I do have diabetes, so I'll get low bg sometimes, and those logs are highly inaccurate, because I don't measure, and it's often in the middle of the night. But those haven't derailed me, I just have to learn that when I'm exercising, I need more carbs and/or less meds. And I'm always less hungry the next day.3 -
