Gym equipment...suggestions?

I recently switched gyms to a larger chain gym, because they have better childcare hours.

I prepaid for a year, so switching is not an option, even though i prefer the old gym for lots of reasons....im stuck for a while.

At my old gym, they had dumbells that went up in 2.5# increments (15, 17.5,20,22.5,25, etc...). It made progressing easy.

This gym increases by 5lbs only.

I have been doing a 3x8 for most of my upper body work.

I really need the in between weights for a few lifts (right now for overhead press, for example, 25lb is too light, I can do 12 reps fairly easily) but the 30 is too heavy (i can only do 6 with good form).

Same with bench press...im using 35, but could really use 37.5#.

Whats the best way to deal with this? Keep lifting the lighter weights, for more reps? Or go to less reps with the heavier weight?

I prefer dumbells to oly bars for several lifts, but switching is an option...its just outside of my comfort zone while lifting alone.

They also only have 10# plates as their smallest plates, but I fixed that issue by bringing my own 5 and 2.5# plates when I go...its a PITA, but it works.

If it were me, I'd go less reps w/ heavier weight, but I like the 4-6 range.

Another thing I've done is find 2lb weighted gloves to use with dumbbells. It's a little awkward, but will ease progression.
