Strength Training?

I recently bought some weights. It came with pairs of 3,5 and 8 lb weights. I could definitely use some tips on how I can begin gaining strength, what types of arm exercises I can do and how long I should expect to be able to notice any changes in my arms (in yall's experience since I know everyone is different).

Thanks in advance!

Are you eating in a deficit?

I did p90x3 which is 3 months and got good results in that time with a small deficit.

Here are some workouts that use weights for at home (when you don't have a home gym set up):
    http://www.idealshape.com/idealshape-up-challenge/
    http://www.idealshape.com/fight-the-fat/
Fitnessblender.com has some videos that use weights as well.
X-TrainFit at Home is a good DVD series that does a lot of strength work.

What you do want to make sure is that your getting a full body workout (whether is split days across the week or only a couple full body days) and not focusing all your time on one area.

Your body picks where fat comes off, so arm exercises alone aren't necessarily going to get you seeing changes in your arms. You definitely need to eat in a deficit. Bodybuilding.com and muscleandstrength.com have many plans to look at. I also really like Strong Curves, and there's New Rules of Lifting. Those will have you using much heavier weights, though.

Here is a good, effective 15min beginner workout that you can do with the weights you have.

    Cheers, h.

You might like 5x5 Stronglifts. They have an app you can use to help you with your workouts. Works the whole body and is progressive. I had to stop because I didn't have a lifting partner and the weights get heavy fast. So, if you are going to engage in strength training with heavy lifting, find a partner! Good luck.

Many of Jillian Michaels' DVDs make use of 5lb and 8lb weights. I believe the 30 Day shred can be fund on Youtube.
