I meant like what is the best method to do this. cold turkey or gradually?0 -

Yes you can stop eating fatty foods cold turkey like how you mentioned with quitting (winning - detachment) pop/soda. When will be the best time? Up to you. Checking nutrition facts on everything has become a natural habit I feel and is helpful. I'm glad I seen this post as I now that I think about it have virtually not had junk food for quite sometime.
good luck0 -
I stopped eating "junk food/fast food" over a year ago. I just stopped cold turkey.
For me, even if I have one little taste, it sends me into a binge that in my opinion, is just not worth it. I cannot portion this kind of food.
The first three months were not pretty. I was *evil* because I was in withdrawl. but now, I don't crave it one little bit. I don't want to go back to that way of eating ever again.
Good Luck!! It isn't easy but it's simple. And it is TOTALLY worth it.

I just stopped eating fast food, fried foods, processed food, and anything white; no white flour, no white potatoes, no white rice, no white sugar, etc. Only eat whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, and lean meats. I also read labels and watch sodium and sugar levels.0

Cold turkey it is. Now just to get my family to accept it.0

feel free to have a look at my food diary of you want some ideas... it is about 90% clean eating
you basically just stop eating refined flours and sugars.. use only natural sweeteners or whole grain flours.
use only fresh or frozen veg for most part.
don't buy junk food... don't buy processed sauces, canned soups, frozen meals etc.
drink water.
in short... cook your own foods from healthy whole ingredients and you are golden *S*0 -
I eat clean too.
For me, it had to be all at once and YES it did really feel like a detox.
I remember saying that to my Dh after a couple of weeks of eating clean.
He said, "I am sure you ARE detoxing! You have taken all that crud out and your body is still getting used to it."
He couldn't have been more right.
Now, I do read about ppl here on MFP that don't do this and struggle with cravings and cheat days and treats and weeks when they don't see the results they want to see or keep gaining and losing the same few pounds.
I think you have to do it your way. You know if you have to quit it 'cold turkey' or not. You know your body better than any of us.
I stocked up on clean food items and when I was surrounded with all these wonderful choices...well, the other stuff just doesn't look as good. My Dh & kids are all on board and I can't keep them OUT of my food and healthy snacks.
Back in the first few wks of my journey, I had a piece of pretty birthday cake at a kids party and it literally through me for a loop. I didn't feel good for 3 days. I felt sluggish and it was harder to get through my workout. My cravings for sugary food items was back.
ACK - that was SO totally NOT worth it.
Live and learn!
Granted, I didn't have as much to give up as some. I didn't then and don't now eat fast food or fried foods.
Processed or convenient foods are not a weakness and not on my shopping list.
I make everything we eat ( for the whole family ) and I do read labels.
Coffee and tea and soda aren't things we like to drink either but making the change to drinking LOTS of water was a big one.
I didn't like just plain water ...but I do now.
I used to sugar and salt everything so I cut all that out.
I don't use artificial sweeteners either. I sweeten things with honey or fresh fruit. I don't buy food items with artificial sweeteners either.
Breads and baked items were my weakness so I cut them out entirely. I feel SO much better too!
It IS possible to control the sugar and sodium levels when you buy healthy and make it yourself.
Your imagination is your only limitation.
I am a planner so I plan meals and snacks ahead and eat often and it is working.
Best of luck on your journey

I don't know. I don't think I could do no junk food ever again. It's just so hard in the world we live in. I do make a concerted effort to eat more healthy food and less junk food, but I don't think I'll ever be able to cut it out completely.0

I don't want you to get the impression that I will never EVER eat another sweet something in my entire life.
I will have a soda once in awhile too. It is going to happen and that is life BUT I am totally off them right now while I learn that my body feels better off of them. I am retraining myself to have a healthier relationship and find healthier alternatives to those things.
The way I used to be totally wasn't working and my wt got out of control.
Hope that clears it up some

Make small changes and graduate to larger ones when you're ready. Also, don't expect to go 100% clean and stay that way for life. It'll only set you up for failure.
Even Michael Pollan, author of "In Defense of Food" and "Food Rules" ("eat real food, not too much, mostly plants") says that his final "food rule" is to "break the rules every once and a while."
Quality of life is just as important as quality of food. Eating 100% clean will definitely eliminate a great majority of social culture. Restaurants that serve any 100% clean food are very, very rare, and that greatly limits what you can eat that other people offer you. To me, it isn't worth it to try to be 100% clean. I do what I can, particular in what I choose to bring into my house. Basically, if I'm given the opportunity to eat clean, most of the time I choose to do so. If not, well, enjoy the moment.0
