I get bags of the chicken breast tenderloins and lasts me awhile. Also for snacking don't buy the already individual packs. Get the bigger sizes and separate into baggies yourself. Much cheaper they just charge you for the packaging.0

Eggs. Rice. Beans. Whatever veggies and fruits are in season.

If there is one available to you a membership store like Costco can stretch your dollars further. Their prices for chicken and other meats don't get much better.0

Go grocery shopping early in the morning when all the meat and dairy are being reduced as they are hitting the sell by date. I do it about twice a week.
Cook as much from scratch as you can, including cookies and other sweets.
Make the crock pot your friend.

It's not hard if you shop for whole foods, not prepared food. Like beans are super cheap, soups and chili are cheap to make, pretty much just avoding the tv dinner freezers.1
