Read any good books lately?

I love to read and I thought I would post a thread about that.
I am always looking for a new book to read.
Currently I am reading John Normans Gor books.
There are like 26 books in the series and I am on book 4 or 5 I am not sure.

Let me know what you guys are reading.

Maybe we can do an online book club or something :heart:

    ive just finished reading 2 Ian Banks books which were very good, The Bridge and The Wasp Factory And Good Omen by Neil Gaiman/ Terry Pratchett which is more of a comedy but still good.
    I also read the new true blood book which isnt good, its terrible but thus the basis of its appeal :P

    I don't do a whole lot of reading really but have just come back from my holiday and have a re-ignited passion for all of the Simon Kernick books (I think there are only 2 I've not read). I find them gripping. I'm also just starting the Stefan's diaries series from Vampire Diaries and hoping the books are as good as the show :)

    I had never heard of the Gor books so I had to look it up and there was definitely lots to read on them haha.....im interested to hear now how you like them :) I always have a book in my hands....just finishing up the Fever series which i really enjoyed...just need to request the final book

    Yes I have read all of the Sookie Stackhouse Novels. They were disappointing and the show is even worse now. They are so far away from the books its not even entertaining anymore.

    Agree with meowy24 - The Wasp Factory by Ian Banks is very good (but a bit graphic and raw if you are squeamish). I'm currently reading Tad Williams' "Stone of Farewell" which is book 2 in the series. The first book was good but a little slow at the beginning. It's a massive fantasy series that's probably trying a bit too hard to be Lord-of-the-Rings-y. If you like fantasy then it's a bit of fun and not too heavy.

    Previous to that I read the Empire series by Janny Wurts and Raymond Feist - starting with "Daughter of the Empire". I really enjoyed them and for a while there had trouble putting the books down. That's fantasy too.

    Thanks for the explanation about "bump". I was also confused by what it meant :)

    I did like the Sookie Stackhouse series, but I like odd books, I watch True Blood too but I don't enjoy the show nearly as much as I did the books, complete trash. I actually like Anne Rice's Vampire series much better though also her Witch series is good too. I also really enjoyed reading Dan Brown's "Angels and Demons", "The Da Vinci Code" and "The Lost Symbol". I like adventure/action/mystery type books as well. If you like reading Native American books Kent Nerburn wrote some really great ones, "Neither Wolf nor Dog" and the sequel " The Wolf at Twilight". I hated the Vampire Diaires books they were a bit juvenile for my taste and the series was so much better, and I never say that, I always think the books are better. If you like reading CSI type books Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta series is awesome and there are 10 or more books in the series. I absolutely loved all of those.

    I really haven't read a book in awhile which isn't like me, but my friend suggested The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, I just bought it and want to start reading it today. I am looking for some new suggestions after this, what do you suggest?

    I love to read!! Currently i am re -reading the HArry Potter books for the fianl and last installemt to the films!! the books do get quite dark and VERY gripping!!

    His dark materials by Phillip Pullman is very good - 3 books in the series and they get quite dark. It's actually one of the books that was adapted to the film "the Golden Compass" - The book is WAY better! (as always i think)

    ALL books by Martina Cole are AMAZING, she is by far my favourite author. She writes London East End Gang books with violence and scandel, and you just can't put the book down! I love her!! (lol) Some of her books were adapted to Theatre and TV on ITV1HD (UK) they were good but always never as good as the books!

    Lynda La Plante is also a great Crime author but she writes from a police/detective point of view rather than the criminal point of view like Martina Cole. Although her books are still gripping and gritty.

    I also loved reading The time Travellers Wife, that was hard to understand but you got the hang of it evenutally. the film was good too.

    My sisters keeper was good MUCH better than the film!

    Girl With the Dragon Tattoo - That is an incredible series of books. The first book can take a bit to get into, but once you do, it's an excellent series. One of the best female characters ever created (IMHO).


    I'm also rereading the final Harry Potter book in prep for the movie.

    For sci-fi, I'm a fan of Philip K. ****, Arthur C. Clarke (especially the Rama series).

    I'm impatiently waiting for the next book in the "Songs of Fire & Ice" series by George R. R. Martin. Going to watch the first season of Game of Thorns as soon as I can get it on DVD or something.

    In my Kindle app, I'm reading Ashely Judd's memoir, All That Is Bitter And Sweet.

    I did have a hard time getting into Girl with the dragon tattoo....maybe I should give it another shot....have seen the movies :) Watched Game of thrones so I cant wait to get my hands on the 1st in that series

    I'm a big fan of historical fiction. If you ever get a chance to read the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon it is well worth it. :bigsmile:

    Also liked the House of Night series by PC Cast (if you are into the teenage vampire books :wink:).

    Of course anything by Stephen King is great (especially the Dark Tower series) and the Frankenstein books by Dean Koontz are great.

    Ok, obviously I like books in a series. :laugh:

    I finished the Hunger Games trilogy which was great, and now I'm reading The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown, If You Were Here by Jen Lancaster and rereading Bridget Jones Diary. I love reading as you can see and you can read my blog below about more books if you like. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

    lol, I have been on a naughty binge! I just finished the Demonica series by Ione. The first one is Pleasure Unbound, so you get the idea.

    I also just read The Paris Wife, which was very good and about Hemingway's first wife.

    I just finished reading the Andy Warhol Diaries. It was fascinating to me probably because of all the famous people he knew, the era (70's) and the location, New York City.

    I am currently reading the Silverwing series by Kenneth Oppel with my son. It's science fiction, about bats, and it's perfect for him, but I love the books too.

    I read Tweak by Nic Sheff, an autobiography by a recoveing drug addict, about a month ago. Very graphic and powerful. I definitely recommend this one.

    I just finished Water For Elephants....excellent book!! Let's see... Secret Life of Bees is very good, and if you like mysteries my new favorite author is Lisa Gardner...

    Well right now I'm reading "The Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand, It's okay but it is one of my friends favorite.

    The book I read before that was "I am Number Four" which I really did like.

    The best books I read this year so far is the Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson.
