Hello all. When I started this journey on Jun 3rd I had no idea what to expect. I always thought if I gave up my 4-6 cans of coke a day and cut out fast food, that I would lose weight. Well I did that. Started eating a lot more fruits a vegetables and yes, I started to lose weight. I also drink at least 8-10 glasses of water daily. I added 30-60 minutes riding the bike and incorporated some weights, nothing spectacular just some curls and shoulder presses. So far its been amazing. I have gone from 244 on Jun 3rd to 218 this morning. I know I am probably not eating the calories I should because I am dropping weight too fast but I am not hungry and feel great. Other than a very strong desire for a handful of lays potato chips, the dieting part itself has been surprisingly easy. I have eaten some steak (very small peice) , Salmon, fried rice, etc. I just think after so many sedentary years my body is just as excited as me....lol

I do worry about the dreaded "Plateau" though. I powered through my first one (last time under 220 was 1995ish). But my next one really worries me (200! Last time below, 1984). Has anyone on here had any issues like that? Can I just keep going like I am? Does everyone Plateau? I am sure there is something I am forgetting to ask but I am also sure I will not think of it, till this is posted

Honestly? At some point you will need to crack down and get religious with what you eat and what you do as far as exercise, that will help you overcome that wall if and when it rears its ugly head.

eventually things will probably start to slow down for you, and you'll have to become more aware of your nutrient levels, but that happens to almost everyone at one point or another. The big thing is making sure that your doing things now that you can sustain for life, I don't mean calorie amounts, I mean foods you're eating. if you're eating things you enjoy, and you're receiving the right micronutrients, you should be fine.

Just remember, as you move closer to where you want to be, shrink the deficit and start paying attention to the food types you are eating, and the nutrients you are taking in, as eventually you'll have to maintain, and you want the good habits already in place so that transitioning from weight loss to maintenance will be less turbulent.

congrats on your success so far, best luck.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it until it happens! Some people can lose weight just by calorie counting, others have to watch everything to lose weight. Keep up the good work!

I've been using this site since March 15, 2011, and I have not hit a plateau -- I'm currently 8 lbs. from my goal weight. I know that plateaus are very common, but it hasn't happened to me yet. Of course as I get closer to my goal my loss has slowed down, but it does continue. Best of luck!!

To be honest, i wouldnt worry about it until it happens.

Keep doing what you're doing while it works, then u can just mix it up by eating a bit more, and working out a bit more, and off you go again!

There's no such thing as a plateau. Jillian Michels dispelled that myth. The faux wall hits when people stop being rigorous about tracking and don't adjust their per day calorie intake based on their new weight as they continue to lose. Fortunately myfitnesspal does that for you automatically so as long as you don't cheat and are honest with tracking the calories in and out, you won't hit a "wall." Good luck!
  • I wouldn't worry about it until it happens. Just make sure to maintain a healthy diet. And if you are exercising too much (or if you feel really fatigued after you do work out) Then, maybe do just a bit less of your daily exercise routine.
    Good luck!

It will definitely happen. Everyone hits plateaus. I have hit two so far and each time I have increased my caloric intake and the progress started. My suggestion to prevent this, is getting a good hold of your diet now. The quick you figure out your diet and calorie needs and start to follow them, the less likely you will plateau. Also, I would suggest getting a good workout routine whether its at the gym or it's a home workout like p90x, turbo fire, chalean extreme, jillian michael, etc... You have the right idea of cardio and weight training, now you should just expand that.

Also, eventually, your body will not crave the unhealthy foods. My body is pretty much at the point now and I can tell you, i love that i don't crave really bad food. Now I will say, I do treat myself once a week but in small portion.
