Holiday! (All inclusive)

I'm going on holiday for 1 week and it's all inclusive so I've got to make the most of it with my friends, if I do treat my self for the week, how much weight am I expected to gain?
And if I do go back on track straight away with my normal routine will I loose the weight I've gained?

Here's my strategy: 1) no dessert at breakfast, 2) do as many active activities as you can (walking tours, kayaking, hiking, etc...), 3) always take the stairs (no elevators) when you can.

I plan to gain about 5-10 lbs on an all inclusive week. When you get back go right back into being on track - don't take the whole month off from healthy choices just because of one week! Drink extra water to flush out all the extra sodium you ate.

    ENJOY your trip!

You do realize that to gain 5 lbs of fat in a week you would have to eat 17,500 calories over your TDEE? Can anybody really eat that much food?!?

As to the OP's question, it's a holiday - enjoy it! Worst case scenario, you will slow down your progress for awhile and that's not a big deal - it might take you an extra week or two to accomplish your final goal, but who cares as long as you reach the final goal! You need to let yourself relax and enjoy the journey while you are taking it!

That's only 2500 calories over TDEE a day. I could do that in a few sugary cocktails plus dessert, easy...

OP, when I've done cruises, I usually come back 5 lbs heavier. 2-3 lbs is water that disappears pretty quickly. I definitely do enjoy myself, but I try to use a LITTLE bit of restraint - go for the sit-down meals instead of loading up at the buffet, don't have dessert after every meal, pick lighter-calorie drinks. But I don't stress about it too much - go have fun :)

@ccrdragon it is the cocktails and nuts at the bar that do it every time for me. I don't eat the nuts anymore. B)

Believe it or not your activity level will probably be quite high and off set a lot of those extra calories.

Keep an eye on portion sizes, and off set calorie dense foods with something less so. Fully loaded waffle breakfast- salad for lunch, etc.

Enjoy yourself and remember this is a lifestyle, adapt as needed.

    Cheers, h.

I normally gain 1lb a day, half is temporary bloat that goes within a few days of returning to my normal routine and half is fat gain. The fat gain needs a deficit to burn it off.

My priority on holiday is to enjoy the holiday which includes enjoying the food and drink.

3-7 is usual average from many posts on the boards. I've gained as much as 12lbs (lots of sodium and sugar eating) and and lost it in a couple of weeks.

It is possible to have a good time without being a total glutton. Enjoy yourself but, don't gorge yourself into a coma. I've found that, after a while of being more aware of what I eat, that over eating just wasn't any fun. I've gained five pounds on vacation only to lose it all in the next week back home. Temporary weight gain is kinda easy to shake off. If you've been "good" for a period of time, you pretty much know what is too much. You can enjoy without completely overdoing it. Have fun. You'll know when too much is close.

We went for 2 weeks in February, came back 3 pounds heavier than when we left. Lost it within 5 days since it was water weight.

Did lots of beach walking, hit the gym most mornings for about 1/2 hour. Fully enjoyed all the drink and food that was offered too. Have fun and get right back on track when you get home.
