Why use *kitten*?

Sometimes on posts I see people sub *kitten* in their sentence. For example:
I plan to totally kick *kitten*

Why do some people, I'm guessing younger, say *kitten*? Is it a funny way not to curse?

No. If you type a cuss word and post it, the MFP system automatically changes the word to kitten. Try it.

The filth filter was changed on April 1st. I first thought it was a joke, because who the *babysloth* finds kicking *kitten* funny? Or eating *kitten*? At least eat a cat, it's had a life.

They need to make this better. The Something Awful forums used to (idk if they still do) have specific filters. The best was "loving caress."

Nvm, thought the filter wasn't working after you edit a post...it does though. *kitten*

Credit where credit is due. It's one of the EXTREMELY few good things done by the coders of this site in recent history.

What? No way! I just thought it was something those early 20 somethings came up with. Is it all cuss words? /tries

I love the way it backfires. Because people will post a genuine thread saying they need a kick in the *kitten*, and it comes out "I need a kick in the *kitten*" and it sounds WAY worse.
