The final meal of the day

I've been with mfp for almost 2 weeks and I think I'm doing okay. But I have started to wonder what time my last meal of the day should be. Someone told me that we shouldn't really eat after 6pm because thats when our metabolism is supposed to start slowing down. Is that true because that is the time I usually eat when I get home from work

everyone's metabolism will slow down when they slow down, as long as you dont eat and then go right to bed or hit the couch you should be ok. Try and make sure you get in some activity after dinner like a walk or something and you should be ok.0

I eat before bed every night! Hasn't hindered my weight loss! Not eat after 6pm? EEK!! Then you aren't eating for the rest of the night and ALL night when you sleep.. your body is fasting all that time! I believe in feeding the machine!0

The timing thing is a myth... I don't get home until around 6pm either. Hubby and I eat around 7pm and I stay up until 9-10pm. Hasn't hindered my weight loss either!0

It doesnt matter what time you eat as long as you are under your calorie intake target for the day (24 hour period). Always clalculate from midnight to midnight. Why would anyone not eat past 6pm when they will be sleeping all night and not feeding/fueling their body during that time. You can eat at midnight if you want as long as it falls within your calorie alotment for the day.0

You are so right Jamie....The body is like a car, if you let it run low on gas, it will not run properly!0

I don't know what the "rule" is, but just so I can sleep well at night I stop eating 2-3 hours before I go to bed. So since I am in bed between 10 and 11, I usually stop eating around 7:30-8:00.0

Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a beggar.0

There's no "one size fits all"! Find what works for you! Personally, my last snack before bed is usually more calories than my dinner. I sleep great and it doesn't hinder my weight loss.0

Thanks for your responses folks I will certainly take it all on board :drinker:0
