Help maintaining an exercise routine

I'm looking for tips on how to keep up with a regular routine when you may be feeling under the weather for one reason or another. On one hand you want to take it easy so you don't make yourself worse but on the other hand you don't want to let yourself get behind or slip back into the old ways of never working out.

Usually when I'm sick I rest up so that my body can take care of business and I can get back to it. Taking some time off now and then isn't a big deal.0

When I'm ill, I will take the necessary time to recover. If I just feel not 100%, I may do something gentle (like taking a walk). To me, part of fitness is listening to my body and taking appropriate recovery time for injury/illness.0

It's a paradox.
For most us the best way to maintain the regimen is to not desperately cling it with no flexibility to be a human.0 -
Are you really feeling under the weather, or are you just "not feeling it"? If you are sick then there is nothing wrong with taking a day off. You have to take care of your body and sometimes that means exercise and sometimes that means rest. If you are just "not feeling it" then maybe you should consider a different type of exercise that you enjoy more, or try exercising at a different time of day.0

If I'm sick, I take time off. The body needs rest to recuperate efficiently. Exercise shouldn't be punishment, working out whilst ill is just that and can actually end up prolonging the illness.
If I just can't be bothered I make myself do it anyway.0 -
I think we each have to figure out what works to stay motivated.
For me it helps to have an 'event' scheduled in the near future. Starting last year, Hubby & I do the Peachtree Road Race 10k on the 4th of July and a half marathon on Jekyll Island in October. *Need to find a spring event! Anyhow, having these things to work toward is good for me because a) I've paid to register in them and don't want to waste that $ and b) I want to complete the event and be happy with the work I've put in.
Its also helpful for me to share my intentions with others. Telling the family I'm getting up to go run on Sunday morning means I'm more likely to do it. They'll know if I back out.I'm looking for tips on how to keep up with a regular routine when you may be feeling under the weather for one reason or another.
