New and need support help!

Options
Just signed up today. I had total hip replacement at 49 yrs of age 21/2 yrs ago. 5 mos later Mother passed away. Was taking care of my Dad. My medical disability was denied-went back to work and will now retire 07.29.11. 01.14.11 I was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis auto immune disease-it causes facial paralysis, blurred vision, dizziness, extreme fatigue, slurred speech and yes I drool! My doctors call me their train wreck. Exercising is difficult for me and if I get overly fatigued it causes a flare up. I've gained and have muscle atrophy since not being in a job with much activity and a 13 day hospitalization 03.11 in which I developed deep vein blood clots in my right calf. I'm hoping the MFP with as much exercise as I can do will help but I'm skeptical. Need support or it may not work. Any ideas?

This is How I eat. See if it helps? I just change up the Meats, Veggies (I only eat corn once in a great while), Pasta ( I only have 1 oz at a meal) Different low cal snacks. If you exercise even just do a little walking, you can add more calories and have a little more. It's really not hard when you put a little work into it.

First off, what did the doctors say about you exercising with the blood clots? Your doctors need to tell you what type of exercises are safe for you. Then many people have a large amount of information to offer.

It sounds like you should probably work on gaining muscle strength due to the atrophy. Dumbbells can do a lot if you know the right exercises to do- they don't need to be too heavy (5 or 10lbs ones will do). Meijers even sells them for pretty reasonable price. Also, walking is good too... even if it is just around your neighborhood. Any little bit will help. You should probably check with your doctor first before you start an exercise plan especially if you are on blood-thinners still and to to talk about what limitations you may have with the Myasthenia Gravis.

I find vegetable stirfries are really good and depending on what you put in them can be really helpful too. I like to put a little bit (no more then a tbsp or 2) of hoisen sauce or low sodium soy sauce. Loading up on the vegetables are definitely good. Also, I always make a point of eating at least one serving of fruit for breakfast- bananas can be really filling. Also, if you are more of a cereal/yogurt person- putting blueberries (35 calories) adds flavor and its healthy.

*Special K Cracker Chips are really good as a snack. You can have 27-30 chips for 110 calories and it comes in Sour Cream and Onion/Chive and Sea Salt flavors.
*Sugarfree jello is also 15-60 calories.
*Also, I don't know if you have a bit of a sweet tooth but if you do- Hershey kisses are really good. One piece is 22 calories.
