You keep those reasons you just gave for losing the weight at your focal point and memory for when you feel like giving up and go back to them often to keep up your motivation. It will work and you will succeed and reach your goals. Set short term goals as well as long term goals. Reaching a bunch of your short term goals (like 1-2 pounds per week) will quickly put you at your long term goals. You will be the most beautiful girl in your group. Just remember beauty comes from inside and be happy with yourself now, even though you want to make youself in better physical shape, you are beautiful now too. Good luck!
  • I wish I would have joined this when I was your age 9 years ago! I have struggled with my weight my entire life, and now that I am counting calories, it's all about the math! As long as I stay honest with myself (and it's the hard part - I mean, how many times have I wanted to take a huge piece of cake and count it as a tiny piece in my diary?) the weight is melting off. I have my calories set to the amount that I would lose half a pound a week, but it is coming off so much faster because I try to exercise every day, I eat whole grains, lean protein, and lots and lots of fresh fruits and veggies, and I eat about half as much in a sitting and half as much sugar as I used to!

My advice to you at this point - take it in baby steps. Make micro-goals for yourself, and it won't seem half as daunting. My first goal was just to lose my breath moving 5 days/week. Then I tried to eat more fresh produce. Then I tried to eat less sugar. Do you see where I am going with this? Any of these steps alone is contributing to making you healthy - no need to rush in and blow your wad trying them all at once! It'll become a habit, not a diet, if you take it slow. And that's the point of this whole program!

I am 1.4 pounds away from the goal of 140 I set 6 months ago when I was 161, and I'm just going to keep right on going until I don't have this pooch on my belly anymore! I wasn't sure I could do it, but I proved to myself that as long as I stay honest with myself, I can do it!

*edit - I should mention my goal weight was the highest it could be and still be a healthy BMI. I think that's a great thing to keep in mind - the healthy aspects of weight loss, not just the vain ones (and I have those too! I love being a single digit size!)
