Hello, I'm new. Anyone else stay away in hotels a lot for work?

I work away from home most weeks and stay in hotels, which means I have to eat out in restaurants a lot. Currently, I'm away Mon-Thur every week, so that's three nights in a hotel restaurant. The weight has been creeping up on me over the years, but I'm determined to change my lifestyle and lose at least 2 stone. I'll do this by using MFP, and also by cutting down on the white wine - I tend to drink too much of it! If anyone out there has a similar lifestyle, shout out and we can help motivate each other!

Sounds like we live parallel lives - right down to the wine! It's very hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle on the road - but I tend to make it work more often than not. Granted - it's usually salads, grilled chicken or salmon and things like that for lunch and dinner - boring, but it works for me. I have a real hard time with breakfast though. Lastly - no matter how much I do not want to do it, how late it is or how tired I am - I always make time for a run or some cross-training.0

You sound very disciplined! I'm in a hotel with a pool next week, and I have packed my cozzie with the danger of actually using it. I'm going to aim for steak and salad, as you suggest, and grilled chicken and salmon in the evenings. And no chips! And no white wine. God, I'm miserable already :-(0

That is a negative attitude that may lead to failure. Gaining weight would make you more miserable than skipping the wine. I was on the road and sometimes spending more time on planes and hotels than at home for almost 20 years, so I think that I have some experience in the subject. This is what I did and how I managed to have things under control and what worked for me:
1) Skip the breakfast buffet at the hotels and just ask for some eggs, maybe toast and/or fruit instead, unless you have a lot of self control.
2) If you do go for the buffet, pack some yogurt, fruit and/or hard boiled eggs to take with you for lunch.
3) At dinner, ask for room service because once your order you will not be tempted to ask for additional food since it will increase your room charges ($$$). Hold the bread and wine and don't be afraid to modify the order to fit your needs. You can drink your wine when you get home over the weekend.
4) Stay away from the minibar and the Concierge Level lounges unless you have control over the choices.
5) Hit the gym if you can even if it is going for only 30 minutes and go harder on your workouts once you get back home.
I understand that we are all different and that work schedules and travel policies also differ a lot, but if you have discipline and self control everything is possible.
Good luck, you can do it!

Thanks Gisel2015, good advice. I've made up my mind to do it, and once I've made a decision I usually stick to it. The breakfast buffet won't be a problem, I usually take an egg, grilled bacon and tomato. Lunch will be OK as I can have a healthy sandwich. Not ordering a large dry white wine at the bar will be a challenge, but I will do it! I'll save the calories until the weekend and have a glass as a treat for being so good.0
