I've had PCOS since I was about 11 YO so I'm 42 now and have done extensive research and you name it dieting. The one constant that works is since PCOS and insulin resistance are linked I've had to cut out processed carbs to see real progress with weight loss. The main constant is Making sure the food you eat is low glycemic. The Glycemic load of food determines how much insulin is needed to turn food into energy. Since our bodies basically doesn't know how to use insulin correctly, eating high glycemic foods just makes us store them as fat.

I've also done extensive research on the natural suppliment fertilaid. It actually helps us diagnosed with pcos to reverse the hormonal issue that causes insulin resistance. I'm starting on it again and a friend of mines daughter has been using it for over 6 months and seen great benefits with her PCOS symptoms.

I have it too and finally got real about changing my diet at the end of February. I didn't lose a pound until June. The only thing that kept me on my diet was knowing that not dieting wasn't going to be successful, either. I'm 47 and was just diagnosed with pre-diabetes in December when I was almost 200 lbs. I think I had to diet for months without results because PCOS makes our bodies very slow to give up weight. What's working for me now is 1. add protein to my diet and 2. eat whole foods (primarily proteins, fruits and vegetables, with some fats). I've always found it impossible to stop myself from things, but if I fill my life (and diet) with other things, then the bad things have a way of falling out. My meals are now based on protein, either with no "starch" side dish, or the starch is incorporated into the meat (like fish sticks or meatballs). The rest of the meal is generally vegetables (usually green). My snacks are generally raw fruit (or veggies), about half the time with some protein like peanut butter, cheese stick or plain greek yogurt (I've gotten used to tasting the lactose - milk sugar - in the yogurt as the sweetener. You can get used to anything!) Fruit and plain greek yogurt is my new dessert. I've still lost very little but I bet my blood sugars are a lot better now and I plan to stay on this meal plan for as long as it keeps working for me. I'm a busy working mom so I still have to rely on convenient frozen foods that my little kids will eat (ie, fishsticks! no way will they eat broiled tilapia for dinner, they would starve first) and having to shop for and fix the fresh fruits and vegetables is a total pain that basically takes away any amount of time that I could have exercised. I might have lost more weight faster if I had time to exercise (exercise is highly recommended for PCOS). On the exercise thing, I think that a daily 15 minute walk will give you better results than going for a hard 1 hour walk twice a week. I think it's important to get the circulation going daily and gentle exercise is good for us as it doesn't provoke any inflammatory response in the body (or exhaustion that could last for days) like hard exercise does.

and basically what I just said is the same thing that Vamptasia said. Low glycemic is the way to go, which means whole foods/protein/fruits and vegetables/things with natural fiber/perishable stuff from the outside walls of the supermarket, not the shelf-stable packages on the room temperature shelves in the middle of the grocery store. Don't eat grains at every meal, even if they're "whole grain" (unless you're vegan, then it might be hard to replace those in your diet). Some "paleo" recipes could give you ideas.

thankyou very much for your help. im currently drinking a hell of a lot more water then i used too, im having fresh fruit and veg everyday either with food or as a snack, and i go on the wii fit/ ea active more workouts and various others for over 30mins everyday and i take my dog out in between them times. ive cut out all sweet things like biscuits, chocolate etc and i have under 4cans of diet coke a day. (my old doctor's practice said i had too cut out most fruit because of the sugar and all fizzy drinks (diet coke, fizzy water etc) but my new doctors said i can have the drinks but just not a great lot of them
