Hello everyone! My name is Sherrena and I just joined the Marine Corps! Unfortunately I am three pounds under weight and my goal is to gain 10 pounds before I leave in November for basic. I take this journey as positive as I can because for years I have been wanting to get bigger in size. So this journey will not only get me physically fit for basic but will help me reach my personal goal as well.

Hello Sherrena and Semper Fi! I am a retired Marine so thanks for joining and welcome to a small but elite group of people, namely Women Marines. You can gain weight by eating a few more carbs (but make them the good kind) and upping your protein. You may want to look into lifting some weights also to build muscle, which weighs more then fat (not that you have any fat on you now but if you eat more then the calories you burn, it can store as fat if you don't work to get muscles). You don't have to lift anything heavy and you won't look all buff. Just nicely toned. You will love those muscles when you are in boot camp because you will have greater endurance for all of the physical activity they put you through. Good luck. The young men are going to love you as you are very pretty!0

Hi Nadia. The best thing about MFP is the ease of using it. Once I started logging everything I ate I was able to see just how much I was actually consuming. It was frightening! Once you establish your daily calorie goal, you will begin to reduce what you eat and also you will probably make better food choices. It gets easier the longer you do it. Just remember that you have to eat less calories then you burn to lose weight. If you add a regular exercise program to the mix you will a.) be able to eat more calories and b.) as long as you don't eat too many more calories, should be able to speed up the weight loss process a little. Good luck and share your journey. You never know when you might be able to inspire someone else to take that journey too.1
