Depending on your version of clean and wholesome, these may make the cut.

I like Snickers! Especially on one of my 10 plus mile hikes. Easy to carry, good energy and compact.

I agree they are easy to carry. I have been carrying them on my love handles

    A couple of boiled eggs.

They're just as portable, cheaper, more satiating, and provide the same amount of protein for fewer calories. For me personally, 12 grams of protein for 200+ calories is way too steep of a calorie price to be worth it as a supplement (that's at least 17 calories per each gram of protein).

Clif Builders Bars are pretty good. No artificial crap, mostly organic ingredients, and they taste pretty good too. 280 calories with 20g of protein.

You can make your own though which are even better. Just need some oats, peanut butter, protein powder, cocoa powder, skim milk, and some ground flax seed. Mix all the junk together in a big mixing bowl, then roll it out on a sheet of ground flax seed, cover it up in a container and put it in the fridge, within 30 minutes or so they set and then you're good to go. You can vary the ingredients based on how much fat/protein/carbs/calories you want in each bar.

Actually, many of those protein bars have similar calories to a snickers...they're basically gloried candy bars...so really, you're not doing any better on that front...and both are equally processed so I don't know how one could be "clean" and the other not.

Thanks for your input. I agree that some protein bars are not any better than snickers. As far as my diet is concerned nothing is off limits within reason. I prefer to eat foods with real whole ingredients as those are not only better for my body but mentally it makes a difference too. Snickers are a trigger food and they'll make me crave more junk food that may lead to binging and things can go downhill from there. Anyway I could go on and on...but all of that just to say that unlike what you said I am doing better, I feel better and I look better thank you for caring enough to comment.

I like Quest bars, and their new crunch bars. I just got a variety sample pack of the small Detour bars, but haven't tried them yet.

Let me know I have tried 1 of the original bars but the taste was kind of artificial to me...can't remember the flavor...thanks for your response.

I'm of his opinion that they work best as a candy or energy bars far better than they work as a supplement since you can do much better on the protein supplementation front. I actually did try it as candy a couple of times Combat Crunch cinnamon flavor was good, and Fit Crunch peanut butter was really good (but it's best to eat only half of it because it's HUGE) I'm not sure how "clean" they are though.

It's good that you acknowledge that it's mostly mental and it's good that you have found a way to control your diet with that realization. The issue with clean eating is that some people deliberately restrict food and make things harder on themselves. If it makes things easier for you and gives you easier control over your diet then kudos to you!

I never claimed to use protein bars as essential supplements. For me their just something easy and fun to grab pre or post workout on occasion just to provide you a little boost of energy and some extra protein as I've been low on that. I eat a variety of fresh veggies and fruits and good quality proteins and carbs and I do take multivitamins and supplements ( I have an open diary if you want to check me out).

There is a mental element but it's not just mental. Not all calories are created equal ( just ask someone with an autoimmune disease). Good nutrition is important and I've been working on my micros to make sure I get essential vitamins and minerals.

Clean eating works with some, some might feel restricted, I know some raw vegans that thrive on that lifestyle, I tried it and I could not sustain it, my cousin eats junk food on the daily and is ripped, if I were to eat the food he eats I would be 600 lbs. We are all different and different things work for different people.

To conclude everything in moderation including moderation.

Thanks for the recommendation and sorry for the long monologue...I had to stop myself.

I'm confused. Unless you're making your own, how are protein bars 'clean'?

Clean eating is in quotations meaning it's loosely used. "Clean eating is about eating whole foods, or "real" foods-those that are un- or minimally processed, refined, and handled..."

RX Bar ingredients: peanut butter flavor
    3 egg whites
    14 peanuts
    2 dates
    Peanut oil
    Sea salt

That is pretty clean if you ask me, everyone has their own take on it and that is why there are different answer on here. To me it's unreasonable to think that you can only eat clean if you make every little thing from scratch. You can find products with whole, real ingredients, no added gluten, Gmo, additives, etc...
