frustrated mommy of a teething baby

Options
So this post is to vent and to find out if any other mom's are going through this too. My baby is 6 mos old and full blown teething. I am very excited to have just received the whole p90x series from a coworker to use. I kid u not-I can only get 10 min max time in before he starts fussing or screaming. I am frustrated and disappoited! He has been like this for a whole month now and its drivin me bananas w/ not getting in hard workouts anymore! I have completed the 30 day shred when he was younger which was nice w/ shorter workouts. He doesn't nap but during the day and always wants held :-(. When I work at nite he is at the sitter during the day so I get sleep. I've thought of setting an alarm and getting up an hr sooner which gives me 4 1/2 hrs slee then and a crappy workout from exhaustion. Sorry for rant-wondering if anyone else experiencing this defeat?

Try frozen watermelon in a mesh teether, or a frozen damp wash cloth helped mine for a bit.

When all else fails, try waking up earlier.

Look for baltic amber teething necklaces. The things are a lifesaver! Inspired by Finn is where we've gotten ours from! They are well worth it! Also, hyland teething tablets are very helpful too!

I used to freeze breastmilk in small (4 oz) bottles and give it to my son still slushy to cool and sooth. I've also known folks who wet washcloths, then freeze them for teething. I believe they make freezable, fluid-filled teething rings, but I'm not sure about the plastics there.

My son is past this now, but what worked for us was an amber teething necklace. He wore it 24/7 and we had very little issue with teething, right up until his last molars, which were a b!tch because he couldn't wear the necklace anymore! FWIW, we got ours from Inspired By Finn, and I *love* them.

Hyland's teething tablets are awesome! My son had 12 teeth when he turned 12 months, so from 4months to a year he was miserable a lot of the time. Does he have a swing or a movie or show he pays attention to? Anything that will entertain him while you have your mommy time. My 3yo loves doing the 30DS with me...in his own way. Good luck!!

I totally understand. My eight month old finally (yesterday) cut his top two teeth, the past month and a half have been challenging. I pretty much only get a good work out if I go to the gym and my kids go to the childcare in the gym.

I hear you. I don't think my son is teething yet, but he's never let me put him down. I don't understand how a 3rd baby gets that way, but he is. Even if he's happy doing something for 10min, that would be the max. I like the idea of watermelon in a mesh teether, but I'm betting it wouldn't last too long.

I wish I had answers. I just work out while he's doing his 30min nap, then bring him back downstairs with me and try to finish as much as I can until he starts fussing. Good luck. Know you're not alone!! Maybe it's a Christmas baby thing...

Please don't leave necklaces on babies--the strangulation danger is very real. I won't get into the dubious "science" of amber--we hall have our things that we like or believe in. But please, if you do decide to go this way, be very aware of the dangers of necklaces on babies.

I used the amber teething neckless and it worked wonders. My little one was still cranky but so very mild. We haven't had the nightmare teething experience at all.

    FYI
-it is a neckless that releases Saccharin acid which is an anti inflammatory
-it is not meant to be chewed on
-most have knots between each bead to keep beads from scattering if it breaks
-take it off when baby is asleep.

I would suggest a book Babywise and pretoddler wise by gary ezzo .....buy it on amazon...he gives incredible skills and techniques and moral upbringing to help your baby with not just teething , taking naps, eating, manners you name it! everything you could possibly have questions about.and be a mommy.....anyway, it's truly been amazing for me and my babies, my first i did what i thought i should do without readying much, but this go around on my next two babies my cousin bought me the book for my baby shower , greatest gift on being a mom more than any other gift I received. No joke,

My first son was just as you're discribing - other than he did take a nap, but I worked full time during the day, so I did not get one. I have 3 boys now and here is what I learned: You can have it all, just not all at the same time. So, what that meant for me was I can work out, but not on my own terms for a few years. The one thing that seemed to be the best happy medium was to doing walks/jogs outside with stroller - some reason the outdoors was soothing to the little ones. My best investment: a BOB jogging stroller. A new single jogger runs $3-400. At first I thought that was ridiculous for a stroller, but people spend twice that on a treadmill and after a couple of less expensive versions and repeated let-down in product, I finally bought one - it has been worth EVERY CENT! It gave me so much freedom that when I found out I was pregnant with #3 when #2 was only 9 mos old, I immediately started researching the exact same model only in a double and bought one. My kids love to ride in it and it looks awesome! Now that my youngest is going on 4, I'm back to using the single. Good luck - even though it will seem like these challenging stages may last forever, they really won't. Someday you will be able to breathe again, in the meantime, enjoy the sweet innocence - it won't last forever either!!

fruit in a teether worked great for my oldest. I would put watermellon, peaches and pears in it, he loved it!!! Then Tylenol and Orajel, the teething tablets didnt seem to help him.

I feel your pain. I have a 9 month old who has been teething for about 3 months but no teeth yet. I am lucky though because he does nap during the afternoon and that's when I try to workout. When he doesn't nap at same time that I want to workout I put him in the walker or exersaucer and he watches me workout. I really recommend bodyrock.tv because her workouts are 12-20 minutes long and super intense. I love her!!!! Good luck to ya.

My baby does nap in the afternoon but usually only for 30 minutes.....I am also doing P90x. My husband and I have worked out a pretty strict afternoon schedule that includes him watching our son during his nap and when he first wakes up, while I do my P90x. Then I take over the baby duty while cooking dinner (usually something easy like baked chicken or pork chops) while he goes to the gym. Our son is turning a year old and has 8 teeth. He did not like regular teethers and the mesh fruit feeders are very messy. My son tends to favor this one teether I bought him....it looks like a giant rubber strawberry and when he bites the end, it vibrates and massages his gums. You can buy them at Walmart. Other than that, you just have to figure out a routine that works for you and stick to it. Oh and the not wanting to be put down thing....It might sound mean but sometimes you just have to put them down and let them cry. As long as the diaper is clean, they're not hungry, hot, cold, etc., it will not hurt them to cry. After doing it a couple of times, my son learned to self soothe very well and is now Mr. Independent. He hates being held, rocked and such. Hope this helps and remember.....fitness is a life long journey, but these moments with your baby are going to fly by, cherish them. :flowerforyou:

here's what I'm talking about  I had to show my son how to bite down on it a couple of times before he understood and now he always has it. He even takes it to bed with him and falls asleep chewing on it lol
