I'm hoping someone can help me out. I think I am sometimes getting sugar lows and feel not myself. Dizzy. Weird walking. I used to get this when I was a lot slimmer and the dr initially thought it could be diabetes. I had the eill poeere to easily skip meals then which i know is not ideal. All tests were fine. Any tips on what to eat at this point which is not too fattening. I've usually ate a couple of chocolate bars or bananas but would really like lower fat food. Thank you

There are some Kind bars that are low glycemic , and easy to carry with you. If at home *stick sandwiches*= carrot sticks, cucumbers any other veggie you want, wrap cheese, and turkey, ham, etc .
Also can buy over the counter pills for low blood sugars that you can just pop in your mouth when sugars become low.

If you're looking for something that brings your blood sugars up very quickly, look for Fun Dips candy. It has a combination of dextrose and maltodextrin, The combination is often used by muscle builders since it resupplies burned glucose very quickly. The dextrose is absorbed much faster than sucrose (table sugar. Dextrose has a GI of 96 while sucrose has a GI of 60. Higher GI values affect blood sugars more quickly]. The maltodextrin is a complex carbohydrate so it takes longer to absorb, but it helps to prevent a sugar crash after the dextrose is used up.
I tend to use this candy when I get lows and it usually starts taking effect in minutes.0 -
Have you seen a doctor?
I'm not entirely sure if hypoglycemia protocols are different between diabetics and non-diabetics (because non-diabetics may still have adequate insulin production/response. Eating something super rapid-acting like glucose tablets may cause the pancreas to release more insulin as soon as those carbs start to be digested, which can cause hypos later on). At the very least, I would assume that choosing meals and snacks that contain sources of long-acting carbohydrates (whole grains, vegetables, beans/legumes, foods with lots of fiber) and fat/protein (nuts, cheese, eggs, butter, meat, dairy, seafood) would be best to help "stabilize" BG levels.
For reference, the American Diabetes Association recommends the following for hypoglycemia treatment for people with diabetes (though honestly, I find these recommendations too much food for me and my BG)- Consume 15-20g of rapid-acting carbohydrates with minimal fat/protein. Some examples would include 4 glucose tablets (16g), 4oz of juice (15g-ish), 8oz of fat-free milk, 15 jelly beans (15g), 3-4 hard candies, 1 small package of glucose gel or cake frosting (15-16g), etc.
- Wait 15-20 minutes
- Check BG. If BG is still below your low threshold (typically <70mg/dL), consume another 15g of carbs and repeat the process. Keep repeating it until BG levels rise above 70mg/dL
- Once BG levels are out of hypo ranges and it will be more than 1-2 hours until your next scheduled meal or snack, consume a small snack that contains 15-20g of slower-acting carbs and some form of fat and/or protein. Examples might be half a deli meat or peanut butter sandwich, carrots and ranch dressing, Greek yogurt with some nuts, cheese and crackers, etc. The big thing to remember is that the fat and protein part of the meal is crucial in order to prevent BG levels from dropping low again (the rapid-acting carbs will be digested super quickly, while fat and protein generally take longer to digest)

Long term - I find that if I make sure to get protein every time I eat, then I don't have problems with my blood sugar crashing between meals. I also have low blood pressure - which makes me feel dizzy and lightheaded, similar to how low blood sugar feels - so I make sure I eat extra salt every day to keep that away.0
