Don't worry about exercise at this point... eat less instead. You don't need exercise to lose weight.

If you insist on exercise, then find something that doesn't bother your PF. Swimming, perhaps?

Utilize the stretches that help alleviate PF. Have the right shoes. Ice it. And don't run for a while-agreed with something like swimming.

Been a few years since I've had a case of PF, but I ended up using some sort of splint that kept my foot at right angles to my leg at night -- prevented the dreaded morning pain fest. Agree with the other posters -- find a non-running form of exercise for a few months...PF takes a l-o-o-o-o-o-n-g time to heal.

PF is challenging, and what works for one person may not work for another. Flexibility through the Achilles and calf is presumed to be an issue, so stretching and using the Strassberg Sock, or night splint can be effective. I was lucky enough that the Superfeet Insert (the green ones) got me back into running, and over time the issue just went away. When you first wake up, before you walk around, try rolling a tennis ball under your foot. This can stretch out the fascia before you tear it walking around. It also feels good.

You should consider going to a podiatrist and seeing about getting an orthotic. If the first one doesn't work, don't be too discouraged. (See my first sentence.) Just see if you can get a different one.

    Best of luck to you!

thanks everyone I did end up going to ankle/foot specialist and he gave me inserts......turns out my ankle was fractured from 2 years ago and healed wrong and the ER docs never caught it :( which cause a bone spur in the space you would get PF in the arch. I have been stretching, biking and doing a piyo class that seems to help a lot.

Can you swim? That's a nice low impact exercise.

Swimmer here too. degenerative osteoarthritis in my feet. Can't do any aerobic work that involves impact on my feet. Hurts too much.
But I can easily swim 4 miles now in the morning.
