Question about large weight loss

About 7 years ago I started off weighing 298 lbs. Just yesterday I stepped on the scale and I'm now down to 168. Almost all of it (with the expectation of the recent launch of pokemon go) has been strictly calorie counting and just time.
I was wondering if anyone had any tips about losing some of the unwanted fat (I think it's fat) still remaining in the belly area? I've been toying with the idea about joining a gym (I have a herniated disk in my lower back atm I've been dealing with the past year) to help get ride of some of it?

Here's a photo... I'm not a huge fan of photos of myself outside of when I'm on cosplay ^^; sorry for the really *kitten*/blurry quality. Was trying on a cosplay that just came in on the right thus the really bad angel and mirror selfie and really stupid face <.<;4 -

How tall are you? 168 on 5'4" is likely belly fat, so stay on the program. 168 on 5'8" is probably just loose skin. Oh, and stay on the program. Congratulations, hotness.0

As we lose weight our bodies use a mixture of fat and lean tissue for energy to fill the energy needs that aren't supplied through food intake. If we diet only or diet and do cardio we will lose muscle. If you diet and do some form of resistance training you'll lose less muscle than you would on diet alone.
Based on the pictures you are relatively tall, but the weight suggests you are still in the overweight category of BMI. The link above (so you want a nice stomach) is going to tell you to add resistance training. Having a leaner stomach comes from low body fat and adequate lean mass. Work on lowering your body fat more and work towards adding some muscle.
You've done great so far and should be very proud!3 -

I believe I'm somewhere between 5'5" and 5'6"
And my moms been convinced it's not fat it's excess skin. Thus the question as I kinda feel it isn't all just excess skin and some fat.
And tyvm everyone for your kind words! *^^*

I went from 265 to 150 (I'm 5'9"). I have loose skin, but the skin feels papery when pinched between fingers (almost like how the skin on the back of your hand feels) and hangs different compared to when I still had fat there.4 -

See the suggestions in the linked article. To determine how much further I have to go (about 15 lbs) I use this calculator:
http://www.calculator.net/calorie-calculator.html
It's a nice cross check for the recommendations MFP makes.0 -

I think this was a good example . Seems like you would be able to feel the difference between loose skin and fat. Loose skin should look and feel thin.JeromeBarry1 wrote: »How tall are you? 168 on 5'4" is likely belly fat, so stay on the program. 168 on 5'8" is probably just loose skin. Also this statement is not always true, I'm 5.5'5 and at 168 pounds I'm about 7/8 without stomach fat, I can prove one day soon lol. Just saying not everyone holds weight the same.
Anyway OP, I just wanna say congrats and maybe strength training wil help if it's truly fat. Strength training may also help with the appearance of loose skin some, from what I'm told. Either way you rock0 -

I don't trust BMI. She doesn't look overweight to me.

She's wearing a jacket and pants. For the general population BMI is a decent measure of approximate body composition. The exceptions are people who work physically demanding jobs or who lift, and people who were athletes most their lives. When my weight is in the obese range of the BMI scale I still have athletic body fat percent due to lifting. The OP hasn't done any exercise, so I am very confident that her body fat is not within a fit level.3
