When asked about The Biggest Loser finale, Gardner told USA Today, “They asked me to come back, and I had already moved on. I wasn’t eligible for the money, I wasn’t eligible to win the show. My life and my business here are more important than being on TV.” He added, “Ultimately, I didn’t look at The Biggest Loser as being my defining moment. I wasn’t there to compete and win the money. I wasn’t there to win The Biggest Loser. I was there for my health.”

Am I the only one that feels like the second part of his statement contradicts the first?

I was extremely upset by his attitude and walking off before the completion of the season. There are so many people who want and need to be on there to get help and then to have someone like that make it. I have personally tried 3 times to make it and so the feelings toward someone that will give it all up is frustration.

There were rumors that he was actually disqualified for breaking rules. Apparently he routinely left campus when he wasn't allowed, that he got caught with a cellphone, etc. Supposedly they were about to disqualify him so he chose to leave.

Guys are you surprised to not to see him? If we walked off the job would our old co-workers see us? He choose to leave I go to the gym where Marci is the owner non of those things were said by Marci, Justin, Arthur, Jessie or Courtney.

I have never watched The Biggest Loser so don’t know how he was portrayed on that show. But I don’t see anything contradictory about his statements, and I find this quote from the article a little more enlightening.
While many theories had spread throughout the Internet about why Rulon didn’t participate in The Biggest Loser finale, it seems that the truth is he felt he accomplished what he needed to do on the ranch. He has maintained his weight loss, and the pictures he has shared on his Facebook page indicate he is in the best shape he has experienced in years.

    you don't find this contradictory...
I wasn’t eligible for the money, I wasn’t eligible to win the show...I wasn’t there to compete and win the money. I wasn’t there to win ??

Seems to me what he's saying is that at some point he decided that he didn't care about winning the show, just loosing weight and getting healthy. Seems like a completely normal statement to make.

Like I said I didn’t watch the show, so maybe I would have a different feeling about what he has said if I had. But no I don’t find it contradictory. I took it that he was saying the reason he didn’t show up at the final was there was no incentive for him too, he couldn’t win or get any money, and (I’m adding this) he didn’t need to stroke his ego by being there.

His saying he didn’t start the show for the money, or to win, is a separate issue from not showing up at the final. He accomplished what he wanted, and felt no need to be at the final, unless there was an added incentive. Saying that is a contradiction would be like saying you didn’t go to Vegas to win money, you just went to have fun, BUT if you happen to win some money you wouldn’t throw it back.

I agree it was not about money or anything else he felt he had let his wife done and I am not a fan of his but that was what I got out of it sometimes things on the show are beyond the Money. Justin let the one stay because she wanted to have a family and he felt he would be fine. Marcie also let others stay and was willing to give her spot up for any one of them. Arthur told us what we could not see because of the rules was that Marcie and Justin were both willing to give their spots up for him however; it was against the rules just like walking off the job is against the rules.
