Blew it this week

Okay. So I've had pain in my right side, behind my rib cage, for a month at least now. The pain shoots across my back, under my shoulder blades and on to the other side. The docs never figured out what was causing the pain, which is slowly getting better. It still feels like my entire rib cage is off when I walk or move. That's cut out most of my exercise. And when I get up after sleeping, and lie back down the right side pain is still so bad that it takes my breath away. So I've been really down and depressed about hurting when Im trying so hard to lose weight. This past week I ate out 7 times, which is more than I have during the past 3 & half months! Mostly bad stuff. I feel like I've failed and I want to keep on eating pizza and fries. But really I don't. I love how much better I started feeling from losing some weight. That side pain just through me for a loop. How can I forgive myself and move on? What would you say to yourself after a week long evening binge?

Hi - I'm really sorry that you're having such a hard time. It's done and you can't change it. Decide to forgive yourself (literally tell yourself out loud that you forgive you) and then move on. I know, easier said than done. It takes practice. Every time I failed or took a step back I learned something. Then those steps backward got smaller and smaller and more infrequent because of all the practice I did moving forward and forgiving myself. You DON'T have to be exercising to eat well - it's not all or nothing-that was the hardest for me to master, but it's another thing that you can practice. I hope you feel better (get a second opinion about the pain) and wish you the best.1

I hope your pain starts to heal! With such severe pain, I'm surprised doctors couldn't find a cause. Take it a day at a time (for pain management and for getting back to a healthy lifestyle). It is easier to think at the end of a bad that, that it was just that, a bad day. Everyone has them, we are human. Acknowledge that it was a bad day and know that tomorrow is a new day and you can do better. Don't let the bad days control you. I hope you start feeling better!1

There is no reason to be depressed or feel bad that you cannot exercise or do activities right now.
You weight loss does not need NO exercise at all. And eventually as you loose weight you will begin to feel better (joints, pains and aliments) leading you to do more. You said it your self you were feeling better.
You can loose all the weight you need, sitting right there where you are right now by lowering your intake every single day.
Take that bad week and toss it out the window! It's gone and outta here! That pain you have may warrant a second opinion if it so bad that you are having to go right back to bed upon waking. That sounds miserable.
Remember your weight and weight loss is the NUMBER 1 thing you have control over, think about all the other things we have no control over.0 -
I would say,
- Get back on track and don't look back!
- You can't control the pain right now, but you can control what you eat.
- It's OK to be hungry. Go get busy doing something else, something productive until mealtime.
- It's easy to keep walking in the same old trench, eating the way you always have eaten, repeating your long-ingrained habits, living in the comfort of your familiar pattern -- you have to climb out of it to take a new path. It's hard, but you can do it.
Lots of protein, fiber, and fat helps satiety. Maximize them while eating within calorie goals. And go see another doctor. Hope it gets better soon!0 -
I would say "Sue, it's time to get your *kitten* back in gear! Yes, you've had a bad week. Yes, you know better. I forgive you for feeling down about yourself and letting that dictate your eating. It's time to move past that and recommit!"
I had something similar to this happen to me a few years ago after I had an appendectomy. I even passed out a couple of times the pain was so bad. Once was when I went to simply brush my teeth! I was convinced it was something horrible like pleurisy because it hurt to take deep breaths and the passing out incidents. Turns out it was a torn muscle deep in the middle of my back. I'm not saying yours is something so simple but it could be.
Please remember that weight loss is made almost entirely in the kitchen. You do not need to exercise to lose weight. Yes, it's certainly better if you do but you can't use the inability to exercise as an excuse!0 -
I'm sorry about the pain & hope they can get you some relief. Although you ate out & ate less nutritious things the good news is you know why you ended up over eating -- because of where / how you chose to eat. Next week do a better job at meal planning & keep plugging away. It's not really a linear progression.
Starting tonight I will be making a lot of less than stellar choices myself due to travel & eating out. You do what you can. Then you move on.0
