So I've been working out like a madwoman for the last few months, finished the Insanity program and am now doing a P90X/Insanity Hybrid. Here's my issue: although I've lost inches, which is great, I haven't lost much weight. I've lost about 6 lbs, but seem to always gain 2 and lose 2 in a week so I never actually make any progress. Yes my clothes is fitting much better. Yes people are noticing and I'm getting compliments. Call me crazy though, but I want that scale to move! Am I just being crazy? Do you have any suggestions on what I can do different? I've tried eating more, eating less, working out more, drinking more water, etc. I don't want to get discouraged but am really at the point where I just want to give up. Why do I put so much emphasis on the scale??? Anyone else have or had this problem?

  • ... are you trying to lose body fat or are you trying to become lighter? Because you're doing the former perfectly and replacing it with muscle. Someone simply trying to become lighter is just mad, to me.

When I get discouraged, I remind myself that the scale is just one of the numbers I should be looking at. There is the scale, the measurements, the blood sugar, and the cholesterol. When I don't see anything happening on the scale, I figure that is a week where something good is happening to one of the other numbers. I mean, think about it - how important is the blood sugar/cholesterol numbers to your doctor? The scale is just one number your doctor looks at - but we can't readily check those numbers every week or every day. So, if I go a week where nothing happened on the scale, I declare it an improved cholesterol week. Another week with nothing on the scale? My blood sugar must be better. You ARE getting results on the measurements - that counts too. It's hard, but you have to stop looking at just the ONE measurement.

Try to remember exactly why it is you want the scale to move. To look better? Feel better? Be healthier? Well, that's what you're doing! Losing FAT (inches) is much better for you than just losing WEIGHT(fat and muscle etc).

Unless you go around telling everyone 'Oh! I only weigh xxx lbs!' which sounds kind of silly to me.

Try not to focus too much on what the scale says. As long as youre feeling great and looking great...I wouldnt worry too much :)
