We need more details to be able to help. How tall are you and what is your current weight? How many calories did MFP allocate you to lose weight? Are you weighing and measuring all your food?

If you are prepared to make your food diary open for members to look at, you will receive more relevant advice.

First of all it has been only 2 weeks. You need more time. Also, are you using a food scale to weigh all of the1200 calories you eat per day? Are you including all thing s like condiments, sauces, dressing, oil, pad of butter?

You have provided no information in order for us in the community to assist you with the process you are following, etc..

Assuming your sedentary TDEE is higher than 1200, then you will lose weight without exercise. However if you are petite and female, you may have to exercise to lose quicker. Depending on your stats, and if you are accurately measuring your intake, then it's entirely possible. I have the advantage of being 6'5" Male, where my sedentary TDEE is 2500, so I can lose 2lbs per week very easily. Some shorter women may have a TDEE of 1400, so when they eat 1200 calories and don't exercise, they lose less than .5 pounds per week. If you are ok with that, then everything is good. If you want to lose faster, then you need to exercise. 1200 is a minimum for women, you should never go below unless you are under 5', then you could probably go a little lower. You just have to make sure you are getting all of your essential nutrients to allow your body to be nourised, including adequate fat and protein.

The less you weigh, the lower your TDEE is, the slower you lose weight. You need to adjust your calories pretty much weekly. Weigh all solids on a digital food scale, use cups/spoons for liquids only, don't guess, choose accurate entries, weigh things like slices of bread that can be off, don't choose generic entries, and look for USDA entries which tend to be more accurate. Always double check labels since food info gets updated all the time.

There are mistakes that people commonly make that cause them to not lose weight that we might be able to spot if you change your Diary Sharing settings to Public: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/diary_settings

See - all this is BS mixed with wizardry. I too have gone weeks hovering at 1200 calories per day, religiously. 6'1", 240lbs, right? No weight loss.

So I switched a lot bout what I ate. That helped. but it's not really science in terms of what works for YOU. Individually. Remember 'the average person needs...' - but the 'average' happens almost never in a group.

OP, give this more time. You are weighing food, which is perfect. Make sure you do not eat below the 1200 calories. You still have not provided much more other than you need help.. so

Just eat the MFP number of calories it gave to loose the X number pounds you setup on your account, do that that each day with weighing food, etc. You will get there. Just need some faith in this process and some patience.

Religiously eating 1200 calories a day ... plus what else? A 6'1" guy who isn't comatose isn't going to maintain on that.
Religiously logging includes everything you drink and everything you cook with and everything you put on your food to flavor it. I keep meeting people who tell me that they don't think the oil in the skillet or the cream in tehir coffee counts. I tell them my coffee habit would be 10% of their entire calorie allowance....

Exactly. Whenever it happens on the boards, the poster swears they've done everything right and even weigh everything. They open their diary and either nothing shows as being weighed, they only weigh some things, have lots of days half logged, or think they don't have to count cheat weekends, drinks, condiments, or oils.

I find it hard to believe a man at 6'1" wouldn't lose on 1200 calories gross OR net; I'm 5'3" and 108 pounds trying to maintain and I'm still losing on 1800 gross calories.

You should want to lose weight safely and sustainably not fast. You just had a baby.
Set your goal for 1 lb a week. Eat what mfp tells you for calories. Log everything you eat or drink inuding cooking oils and condiments. Log as accurately as you can using a food scale. Do not eat below 1200 calories.
Give it time. 6 months to a year.
If you carry a lot of your weight in your belly area be aware that while you are losing weight all over but you will have the belly longer. Take body measurements once a month.

Only because I heard the recommendation by 3 women that did it - and others have tried it with success now too.

Set MFP to maintain - no weight loss. Set activity level to Lightly Active - because you will be - you'll easily get over 4K steps daily.

Don't account for milk production for baby - that uses extra energy and creates your deficit. (normally you should - and you didn't even comment on that - I'm concerned you are attempting a lot here without knowledge)

More deficit at the start with a lot of feeding and more weight to lose, less later on when you have less to lose.

You really don't want to do a steep deficit and and no exercise and lose a decent amount of muscle mass in the process - you'll regret that sooner and later.

And you really don't want your body to have to make decisions as to where the low energy sources are going to go - baby may get them first and your body suffers more, but some have suffered milk production issues.

*Note: If you've had a baby recently, a bigger tummy may not be due to just excess weight. The connective tissue in your abdomen has stretched from pregnancy. It will take time for it to return to a more "normal" shape.

Assuming you are creating a calorie deficit (where you burn more calories than you are eating) then yes, you'll lose weight! First you need to figure out how many calories you need per day maintain your current weight taking into consideration factors such as your muscle mass and exercise regimen. The easiest way to do this is by looking at a calorie calculator online. Personally, if I ate 1200 calories per day I would lose around 0.5 kilos (just over a pound) per week which is quite significant :) hope this helps!

Um I guess deeds how long since you had the baby. But 1200 seems low to get enough nutrients to yourself and baby whilst breast feeding. The stomach thing might be the connective tissue still extended. Go see a doctor and see what exercise you can do and when. Much healthier than starving yourself at 1200 cals per day.

I'm 7 inches shorter than you, 7 years older, female, and I lose weight on 1500 calories before exercise, and I exercise.

The weight should be flying off someone with your stats if he was truly eating 1200 calories. Did you weigh all your solid foods on a digital food scale? Studies have shown people are terribly at estimating their food consumption.

If you can exercise, it is very helpful post-pregnancy.

You need to consume more calories if you are breastfeeding. It's not surprising that you're not producing enough milk. Please talk with your doctor.

I second this!!! When I was breastfeeding, I had to consume more calories to keep my supply up. You should never restrict calories to 1200 like that while breastfeeding.

Eating at 1200 while breast feeding could compromise your milk supply further. You are forcing you body to make choices on what processes to fuel. Have some patience and enjoy the new little one.

    1) Your tummy is also big because all that stretched out skin has collapsed backwards. It takes time for it to tighten back up.
    2) A baby getting 100% of its nutrition from mom is getting something like 400-600 calories of milk a day, depending on how old it is. That has to be *created* in your body, by what you eat. Your body will take it from your bones and your nutritional stores at first, but eventually your body will say "Wow, this famine is getting pretty severe. You and the baby will both die if I try to keep you both alive, so I'll stop making milk. Maybe the baby will die but if you survive this you can have another one later."
