I'm going to say it is absolutely not bad for weight loss. I get a TON of dairy! Usually 3 glasses of skim milk and at least one serving of fat-free Greek yogurt or half-fat cheese. Hasn't slowed me down in the least.0 -
Honestly? You can find an article where EVERYTHING is bad for weight loss.
I have dairy in my life still and lost 60lbs. Everything in moderation. I've made changed some things - like buying fat free/skim milk, low fat cottage cheese and so on.
I think as long as you aren't consuming all your daily calories in dairy -- you'll be fine.0 -
In my opinion, I'd say good. For me it's good because I like to eat and tracking my foods helps me see how much I eat - it helps me learn about portions. I'm a bottomless pit, it's scary - logging my foods helps me stay in control. At the end of the day, it's calories in, calories out.0

thats so true!! you need calcium or your bones wll get brittle0 -
Dairy is absolutely good for weight loss! No doubt. No question!0

Think long term - dairy is the best source of calcium. You need calcium for strong bones and you certainly don't want to end up with osteoporosis.0

Good. Many essential nutrients in dairy. Just eat it in moderation.0

The viatmin and nutrients in dairy (i.e. in mild) have been show to aid in weightloss in especially in women. I have even read study that suggests that drinking some milk after a workout can help loos weight.0
-
There are conflicting studies and reports on it. I say as long as you are counting the calories then just do what you think is best for you. I am all about dairy and I have friends who are very anti-dairy. It's really a personal thing.0
-
Arguably at best. I do drink almond milk and coconut milk now almost exclusively, but personally I think even whole milk from grass fed cows with no hormones and antibiotics is a superfood. And don't get me started on cheese. The vitamin K alone is worth it when you eat "real" cheese. That being said it's like any other "drinkable' calorie source, you just have to be careful because it's easy to over do it when you drink it.0

I read this as "diary" and was so confused, haha. One of those days.
Anyway, I'm a big advocate of "nutrition comes first" and weightloss as a journey towards HEALTH, and dairy is a great source of nutrients, so I can't see actively avoiding it unless a person is lactose intolerant (like me, but I can use lactaid, luckily) or vegan. There are good choices and bad choices when it comes to dairy, just like any food group, so sticking to the healthier choices is key. Plus, I seem to remember reading a study ages ago that talked about the importance of calcium for weight loss (everything from muscle repair to maintaining bone density to metabolic processes), and dairy is often high in calcium, so there's that!0 -
I agree with moderation and skim milk ESPECIALLY for women. Calcium rich diets (milk) are critical to avoid osteoporosis.0
-
I know this isn't what you asked, but I peeked at your diary. Only eating 900 calories isn't going to help you in the long run, whether it's from dairy or not. But I've never heard that dairy is bad for you! Just get reduced or no fat, especially with cheese, to help cut some calories.0

This is a question I actually know the answer to, and wrote an article about it a while ago. The link is below if you guys are interested.

I eat dairy mostly in the form of cheese and yogurt even though I rarely drink milk now, but that being said I don't think calcium should be the main reason to go to dairy, as leafy greens have on average just as much calcium as dairy, calorie to calorie. Great though if you don't like leafy greens or just want it to be part of a balanced diet, but their are plenty of ways to get calcium through natural foods besides dairy.0

If you are building muscle a glass of milk or yogurt is great after a workout. I I drink 2 glasses of milk a day. But I heard that US milk regulations are different than Canada's dairy and it has more steroids or other stuff in it. :S0
-
OH dear God girl! Your diary is scary! Are you logging in everything you eat? You need real food. And to eat back you calories at least some of them.0
-
Um, I would say it's pretty much a non-issue for weight loss. I had probably 2 servings of dairy on average every day during my weight loss, and it didn't hinder me any.0

Unfortunately this is very true. However, Organic milk and "natural" milk from local dairy's is commonplace and not that much more expensive than regular milk, and to get it without hormones, steroids, and antibiotics is well worth the cost.0 -
If you have bones, and you are a human (particularly a woman) you need calcium! Dairy products are an easy way to get that calcium!0
-
It's totally bad for weightloss. I drink 1-2 litres of milk every single day & I've only lost 70+lbs in 8 months. The horror!
But really, eat what you deem appropriate for you and make it work with your calories. There's always going to be a study that says something is awesome or horrible, and then another that says the exact opposite.0 -
I was eating dairy and hit a plateau. So.... a good friend (also a personal trainer and nutritionist) suggested a dairy free diet for 3wks to see if I notice a change. Many people have a dairy allergy and dont' even realize it. If you do have an allergy - it could prevent weight loss. I'll let you know in 3wks.0

"Tip # 2: Eat Diary"
Now why in the world would I want to eat that?0 -
No it is not bad for you. My wife and I eat only full fat dairy products and are both losing.0
-
I don't think it's one way or another. I've cut out cow's milk (just for the sake of calories & fat) but I eat greek yogurt and cheese both at least once per day ... I always do better with weight loss when I get enough dairy... so I think everybody's difference.0
-
I have lots of dairy. Milk protein is one of the best sources because it's a mix of Whey and Casein which is a natural time released protein. Milk is great right before bed.0

Totally agree with you!! YOU need to eat more!!!0 -
Dairy is absolutely good for weight loss, but there has to be balance too. You can't just eat a load of dairy and a couple veggies everyday. Also, you have to watch the ingredients in the dairy you are eating. For example, if you are getting enough fats from other foods you are eating, then you should opt for a lower fat option. I myself have a hard time with fat sometimes, so I opt for full fat in yogurt.0
