Update! I went to see a spine doctor. He said I have bad arthritis on my L2-L4. Therefore my bones are deteriorating causing the cartridge to thin out and wedge. He thinks it's a pinch nerve on my L2 causing my sciatic nerve to flare up that's why I have pain down my right leg. Treatments are, steroid pills, muscle relaxer and pain killer. If it does not get better in 30 days then they will do injection. If injection doesn't work than surgery is last option.

I went to see chiropractor and he said he treats this all the time. I may just skip the whole medical treatment and try the chiropractor first. Any thoughts?

It might be worth a shot seeing what the chiropractor can do, but steer clear of any that only manage pain without an end in sight. But correcting the pain without medication is always the best route, but sometimes medical treatment is just necessary, especially in a case like arthritis. It doesn't go away. Try chiropractor, see if there is any improvement, and evaluate from there. But also do not ignore symptoms and keep open communication with your doctor.

I feel your pain though. I found out today that my pelvis is misaligned, which is a strain on my SI joint causing knee pain. I couldn't walk, and I've had to stop running completely for now despite a half marathon coming up. It's never a fun thing to deal with.

Arhritis just doesn't go away, what can a chiro do that a regular doc can't?

Oh wow mine started out as SI joint pain but further evaluation shows arthritis.

Well doctor only treats pain but won't help with bone movements only a chiropractor does that. Also doctor says it flares up Everytime it irritated.

Sure, try the chiro first. Also ask him about yoga: https://yogainternational.com/article/view/7-poses-to-soothe-sciatica

If the bones are deteriorating I don't see how a chiropractors manipulation will help?

My husband had symptoms like you and was told he had arthritis. His leg pain was so bad and severe that he was losing feeling in his penis. He went to a chiropractor but it did not help at all. He wound up having an MRI and he actually has a bulging disc that was leaking fluid. He has had the back injections twice now and is headed toward surgery in a few months.

This is the sort of stuff chiropractors should stick to!

Though, you could give the steroid shot a go, but that has finite chances, anyhow.

Agree with choppie, mind - a reputable chiropractor should want to know about an MRI first.

I would try physiotherapy. If you can strengthen your back and core it might help stabalize the discs.

But don't ignore it. I did that and just kept powering through the sciatic pain for too many years. Eventually it pinched off and killed the nerve entirely so I have some paralysis instead of pain. Don't ignore it.

    Best wishes.
