Bicycle riding to work in NYC

I'm starting my 4th week riding my bicycle into work from Forest Hills to lower Manhattan. About 12 miles. I go over the Williamsburg bridge. Great way to enjoy wonderful views of the city and get excercize at the same time. Back hom is more uphil and you can get a little salty but it is well worth the healthy feeling.

I am not a city rider, but I am desperately trying to lose weight because I am coming to NYC in October. Just good to hear that you are doing that keep up the good work.0

I cannot count the amount of times I've said that I would love to bike to work --- if I wasn't so afraid of nyc drivers!
I work 8mi from home (live & work in bklyn) but there is not bike route to get me where I need to go!
Sadly, my fear of the crazies on the road wins.

I keep considering doing something similar. I LIVE in Forest Hills as well and I work in Brooklyn Heights. My big worry is that I sweat a lot and I would be unfit for work by the time I get there. Would be a heck of a lot cheaper the NYCSC on Autin though.0 -
I ride to work...however, that trip is 1.8 miles each way. So, not as great of a workout as 12 miles there and back, but at least it's something. I set myself a goal to see how many days I can keep my car off the road this summer. I'll see how it goes and try for more days next summer. I love bike riding! If I don't need much from the grocery store, I'll ride up there and pack up the groceries in my backpack.

Me too, only a short ride 10-15 minutes depending on the lights, but it does make a difference and it makes the longer rides easier to start... By the way its not New York, but a Preston second ain't much longer than an NY second!!0

I try to bike to work in Minneapolis (about 4.5 mi one way) whenever there's decent weather- it is the perfect way to start the day! Luckily I get to take a paved trail almost all the way and avoid crazy drivers.

I am an attorney and have court appearances regularly at 360 Adams. "No Sweat" I call it a bit "salty" but it is worth the ride, esp. Halsey St in Bed Sty is a great street with amazing architecture... All you an do is try it. I had no idea how easy it was to get hooked.. I have Honda Shadow Spirit 1100cc motorycle w/ 55k on it I used to ride but the ticketing frenzy pushed me to try bicycling.
Do think I can go back...

My fiance called QB the "Boulvard of Death" and says they put up the fence to stop people from playing Frogger. I am hoping that when my gym membership expires in a year that I will be in good enough shape that I will not be quite as unfit for work. Right down it is truly disgusting. I lived in Madison Wisconsin for awhile with only a bike and I loved it, I just was in better shape back then. It would be very nice, until then the subway I go!0

I agree about Queens Blvd - the signs they have up that are like "a pedestrian was killed in this intersection on such-and-such date" are crazy!!! If that was my daughter or husband or friend or whatever who was killed those signs would make me feel terrible!0
