I have started fitness program for strength and balance. Also eating better. Have arthritis so try to keep moving. Like to lose 30 lbs.

You are taking all the right steps. Weight loss and strength training have helped IMMENSELY with my osteoarthritis pain.1

Great to see you are heading in the right direction.
Take it slowly. It took me a year to lose my 30lbs and well worth the time taken as I didn't go hungry, or short change myself on nutrition.
Protein is important when we get older, it helps with muscle retention. We actually need more than when we were 30.
Try to get an adequate amount. (Read link below)
Make sure you give yourself plenty of recovery time between exercises. We do need a little more to prevent injuries or burn out.
You may find Aqua fit good for your arthritis. It is cardio with an element of resistance work while low impact.
Stick to a reasonable calorie goal, eat back a percentage of your exercise calories, weigh all your food, and you will lose those 30lbs and be a whole lot healthier.
