Kind of the same. Though I started in the health industry, everything fell to the wayside when I got married and my kids were born. Got wrapped up in work and just life. Was getting close to 40 and looked in the mirror - was up over 30 pounds. Wanted to get back into competitive sports so I knew I needed to get back on it. Dropped most, feel better, and can compete. All good things.

I ran into a few health problems and realized how inflexible and sore and uncomfortable I was. I had a moment when I pretty much decided that I needed to either do something to turn that all around and enjoy the next 50 years or shut up about and accept the consequences of my poor lifestyle choices. Fortunately I chose the former and, closing in on 3 years later, here I am.

Oh, I was over 200 lbs and pretty much completely sedentary. I wish I had taken my waist measurement because I carried a huge amount of weight in my stomach (I don't get the curvy hips/thighs like many women) I kind of kick myself for not measuring my waist when I started. Anyway, I'm now quite active and a healthy weight (lost over 50 lbs) now and while I still have some fat to lose my focus is more on getting stronger and adding muscle right now.

It took seeing a picture that was taken of me at my sister's 40th birthday a few years before and really looking at myself. I wasn't technically overweight but I was flabby and I was certainly out of shape. Frankly, I had gotten lazy. I got a pedometer and soon discovered I was walking only 1000-1500 steps per day on average. That was before the whole 10000 step craze that has taken over but even then I knew it wasn't nearly enough. I discovered MFP while looking for a place to track carbs, took up running, then weight lifting and here I am 5 1/2 years later.

I came back for some fine-tuning. Would like to lose another 5 pounds and keep my muscle mass and work my ab muscles and arm muscles. My preretirement field is public health/health promotion, so wanting to stay healthy comes naturally. Staying that way is a bit of work.

I was born into an active family ... my parents and grandparents did a lot of walking and hiking, and my parents also cycled. So I guess that's what started me on a fit Lifestyle.

I've gone through a few years over the last half-century where I have done somewhat less exercise than usual, but I've always been active. I don't know life without activity.

And although I've cycled since I was about 4, on April 29, 1990 I started logging my rides and have logged every single ride I've done since then. Even the short round-the-block test rides while adjusting something on my bicycle. :)

I realised one day that the biggest size most stores stocked was getting tight on me and I had no idea what I was going to wear once those didn't fit anymore. I lost 70kgs, I'm now a NZ size 10 (I think that's a US size 2 or 4?) and my wardrobe is bursting with clothes lol :)

Went from a swimmer in high school with close to a six pack weighing 150 to my junior year of college weighing 197 and starting to look really chubby. (I lifted though college but didnt make use of compound lifts and mostly did arms and chest also a serious leg skip offender). Then my senior year of college i learned how important diet was and started doing compound lifts.

Glad to say im down to 165 though after a year and starting to get my abs back. :)

Also congrats to evwryone who has posted on weight loss/health improvements.

I looked unhealthily skinny and ate terribly (like carbs and fatty foods galore). I wanted to become strong and look strong. After weight training for a year, my confidence has sky rocketed and I'm strong! It feels awesome! B)

I've just always enjoyed being outdoors, riding a bike, hiking, etc.

I grew up playing Baseball, Football, and riding my bikes everywhere. I was a lean mean 190 pounds of pure muscle. And after I graduated high school. I stopped lifting. I stopped working out. I stopped everything. I went from 190 up to 326 in less than a decade.

In June of 2014 my wife and I went to Cedar Fairs Kings Island and I attempted to ride the Diamondback roller coaster and was physically to big to ride it. So I started lifting. I started riding and I started doing my own thing. And from June of 2014 through June of 2015 I went from 326 down to 217.
