Recurring Muscle Pain?

I walk for exercise, usually 5 or 6km. I keep having this recurring problem with one particular muscle in my leg - it's on the side of my right thigh , about halfway down. It starts off feeling a bit tight, then progresses to feeling really tight and knotted and feels like it's deep in my leg. It hurts to walk on it when this happens and no matter how I stretch I can't seem to loosen it up or get any relief. It goes away after 4 or 5 days but will then flare up again on my next walk. Any ideas why this is happening or how I can prevent it / treat it?

How good are your shoes? That can make a world of different if you're wearing walking shoes that you've purchased for that reason. Shoes last about 6 months then tend to break down. Do you switch out pairs, that can help. This could be part of it. If it continues and you've got good shoes then I'd suggest checking it out with your doctor. You mentioned you stretch.. do you stretch your calves really well? Some really great stretching vids on Youtube. Do you have a roller you could use, that can do wonders for working out aches and pain that sometimes you can't get rid of any other way.

Not sure if anything on my post helped but I threw out a few ideas. Take good care!

Lack of magnesium? Check with your doctor, it could be a muscle strain as well.

I have 3 pairs of decent walking shoes, 2 of them are newish - it still happens regardless of what shoes I wear. No problems with any other muscles in my legs, just that one on that side. It hurts to put any pressure on it so haven't tried a roller but will give that a go tonight. I take magnesium most days too so don't think it would be that. I also thought maybe my shoulder bag was throwing things off balance and causing it, so I took a really light bag on my last walk and no difference there.
