Help with weighing meats with my scale?

up until now, I have been weighing out my meats raw before marinading them and cooking them. But tonight, I weighed my chicken breast and it was almost half an ounce less than before we grilled it.
Question:am I supposed to weigh the meat (raw) before and use that number, or weigh it after cooking?
Thanks!

When I used to eat meat I always weighed it after cooking.

You can do either, whichever suits you better.
Just search in the database for "raw" or "cooked" after the name of the meat.
  • if you weigh it raw you're getting the info for the meat only, regardless of what happens to it during cooking. i personally think its more accurate.

We've been weighing after it's cooked for the most part, because thats when we are portioning it out and we write the weight on the baggy or container.
  • It's just so confusing because the booklet that came with mine lists the meats as raw, not cooked... Hmm.
