Some days I just eat Asian inspired soups - clear broth with bean sprouts, shredded chicken, coriander, pak choi and some rice noodles or a can of low fat coconut milk mixed with stock and a tablespoon of Thai red curry paste with brocolli, Chinese leaves, prawns and lime juice or a fast Vietnamese beef pho, stock simmered with star anise and cinnamon stick and ginger then add very thinly sliced beef steak and rice noodles, serve topped with beansprouts, chopped mint and coriander and lime wedges. They are really filling but very low in calories and fat.0

make some pancit!! You can eat it and not feel guilty.
You can use Bragg's liquid aminos instead of soy sauce or use mostly Bragg's and a little soy to drastically reduce the sodium.
Here's how I make my pancit (it's actually a Filipino dish not Chinese, but still AMAZING):
Dynasty - Maifun Rice Sticks, 1 container (7 oz ea.)
Cabbage - Raw - Chopped, 2 cup (89g)
Ka-Me - Stir Fry Vegetables, 1 container (1 cup ea.)
Kikkoman Soy Sauce - Reduced Sodium Soy Sauce, 1 tablespoon
Bragg - Liquid Aminos - All Purpose Seasoning From Soy Protein, 9 tsp (2.5ml)
Generic - Frozen Field Peas With Snaps, 8 oz.
Onions - Sweet, raw, 0.5 onion (coarsely chopped)
Lemon juice - Raw, 2 fl oz 15
Marjon - Extra Firm Tofu (Organic), 1/2 block, cubed (more or less-depending on your taste/desire)
Carrots - Raw, 1 cup, grated
Spices - Pepper, black, 1 tsp (more or less according to your taste)
Natural Bean Sprouts - Raw - Raw Mung Bean Sprouts, 1 Cup
Oil - Olive, 2 tablespoon
*prepare maifun rice sticks according to package directions, drain, cut a little so they aren't so long, and set aside. Put 1 TBSP of olive oil into a pan, and saute lightly (2 minutes or so) the onion, carrots, snap peas, and tofu. Add cabbage and a TBSP each of water and soy sauce (drizzle over top). Cover and let saute/steam for a few minutes. Add can of Ka-Me stir fry veggies (this is the lowest sodium canned variety-you could use the frozen and add sooner). Add bean sprouts. Mix lemon juice, braggs aminos, the additional TBSP of oil, and pepper together. Add the rice sticks to vegetables and mix. Drizzle liquid mix over top, stir together, and fry for a few minutes to heat through and allow flavors to meld.
Makes ~8 servings.

You could substitute cooked cubed chicken, beef, or pork for the tofu. I make mine vegetarian.

Some things you can live without, and some you can't. McDonald's for example, I stopped eating that crap completely, I don't even think it should be called food by any definition of the word. Sad part, I use to eat it EVERY single day.
I DEFINITELY have cut fast food out of my diet and DON'T miss it one bit. I used to have 2 Egg McMuffins every morning.0 -
i eat regular take out chinese food once a week....i do it on thurs nights when i have one of my highest calorie burns.....my total meal is typically 1000+/- cals depending on how much i eat but i burn 800-1000 cals that day so it balances itself out.....i drink lots of water anyway but up it that day and the day after to help flush the system.....i get a pint of steamed chicken w/broc, snow pea pods and carrots, 1/2 pint of white rice, 3 chicken wings, 1 spring roll, 5 tablespoons house duck sauce, gen tsao sauce on the side....i eat my chicken wings and spring roll first and then depending on how hungry i still am i eat anywhere to 1/2 to all of the chix/veggies/rice.....it is truly my one splurge a week and i have done it for over 3 years and lost almost 80lbs doing it.....if you want to make your own to reduce your sodium or cals you should really find some great recipes....hungry girl has some really good alternatives to restaurant food that work cal wise...but my weekly chinese is a "tradition" my husband and i have...we either watch big brother or survivor when they are in season or we watch another show in the box once the kids go to bed and eat our takeout...when i started this journey in jan 2008 i decided i was not on a diet...i was changing my life style and i would not add anything to my life i couldnt do everyday or remove anything from my life that i couldnt live without.....it's all about moderation.....i used to order all fried stuff or lo mein or pupu platters or egg rolls or heavy sauces.....now it's steamed with the "splurge" of the spring roll and the wings.....soooo either find a good recipe or get a healthy option and satisfy your craving....when you dont often times the binge is THAT MUCH WORSE IN THE END!!!! just my opinion of course...it's what works for me
ps - i use chopsticks to eat also...takes me longer and i fill up faster...

Ditto... I've started making my own healthier stir-fry. Fresh vegetables, low-sodium sauce, lean chicken or pork, brown rice. I probably eat that about once a month to get my Asian fix. It really works.
If you REALLY want Chinese though and you're not as concerned about sodium as I am, try something like stir fry with brown rice or chicken and broccoli. Eat half and save the rest for another night. And eat it with chop sticks... it'll take longer and you'll feel fuller faster. Trust me.0
