Fosters Lager has 13.5g Sugar in every pint............unbelievable.....

Options
Just discovered Fosters lager in UK has 13.5g sugar in every pint, most other lagers have no sugar at all and I mistakenly thought that this was the case for all lagers.....apparently not....and I was unwittingly downing several cans of Fosters of an evening and sending my blood sugar levels mental and never knew why.....until now....thought I would share this wisdom in case any other diabetics caught up with Fosters......avoid it.

Hi mate, type 1 of 25 years here. You should be SUPER CAREFUL with all alcohols if you are a T1. Most largers and ales contain carbohydrates which as you know, affect blood sugar. The real problems come in a few hours after you drink the alcohol as it will actually lower your blood sugar whilst you sleep! I have had many broken nights of sleep caused by hypoing due to this!

I agree lol why are u drinking that terrible stuff. When I lived in the uk I was actually suprised so many people drank that crap over there. Must be only country that drinks it. Lol I thought I heard pilsner was a 'bettter' beer to drink carb/sugar wise. I love a beer but only drink it if socialist Nguyen and steer clear of the daily alcohol

I'd worry more about the habit of downing several cans of Fosters full stop. It's bloody awful stuff

I came to say that too, nobody in Australia drinks it!

The good news, most lagers will have about the same so you didn't do anything you hadn't already been doing.

While you are in this discovery phase. Look at the nutrition label and measure out a serving of salad dressing.

Many Lagers have zero sugar - Grolsch, Heineken and Carlsberg Export to name a few........unlike Fosters which has 2.7g per 100ml apparently........I used to always drink Carlsberg Export until my local Asda bumped the price by 25% and then took it off the shelves altogether by Easter, so I ended up unwittingly switching to the Fosters thinking it too would be zero sugars....how wrong was I ...... I always do check the nutrition labels on food and drink and anything I am not sure about I look up, but of course there is no nutrition label on lager cans and I had checked out lager when I was drinking one of the others and was happy there was no sugar to be found in lager....

If you're going to drink lager make it a good chemical free Czech or German pilsner, for taste's sake!
    Mmm Budvar...

According to most sites I searched the others do have sugar in them. Here's and example citing Heineken.

It appears to be more that they are not required to be listed and some companies are more secretive than others.

Yes. As I said above, ALL beer has some sugar (carbohydrates) in it. If you don't want carbohydrates, drink liquor.

As sad as that would be.

alcohol and diabetes is an interesting combination. If choosing to do so should be in moderation. 1 12 ox drink for women and 2 12oz drinks for men. That said choose wisely.

I'm going to say if you suffer from it and choose to drink than you have made your decision that you dont care enough about your diagnosis to "do the right thing"
