Injury help!!!

I'm a newbie to the gym and I was really loving it! I sprained me knee a week and a half ago and had to skip the gym. I really want to go back and do all my cardio stuff and skip the leg weights. My knee feels good but not back to normal. I can still feel the sprain when I do stairs or over exert myself. What can I do to not permanently damage my knee but get back to the gym?! HELP!!

Does your gym have a pool? Swimming won't cause strain on your knees. You could also do just the upper body equipment. You are right in you don't want to cause anymore injury to your knee! :) You may also ask one of the trainers at the gym - they don't mind answering questions now and then. Hope this helps!

No swimming pool, but they do have trainers.

You could use low impact equip. (Bike or elliptical)

Should I wear the brace when I do either of those?

I have ongoing patella tendon issues & neither bike or elliptical are considered "low impact" for my knees. If you go for a recumbent bike it may be easier. I suggest that if you try those and there is any pain at all then stop immediately. Have you considered going to a sports physical therapist to get your knee back into working shape?

No. I haven't been back to the Dr since they took xrays and determined that it was sprained.

If it were me I'd only do very low risk activities (low intensity things like walking) that also do not cause any pain to the area.

If it hurts I'd not be doing it. Good chance that you're delaying recovery.

I would also see a physical therapist and not a personal trainer on this issue since this is more in their wheelhouse.

    best of luck
