Overnight Backpacking at Golden Ears

Good Morning everyone!

Tomorrow I am going on my first overnight backpacking trip. A friend and I are hiking the Golden Ears trail up in British Colombia, Canada.

I believe I have all the essentials.

Do any backpackers have suggestions or tips for me before I set off on my first overnight voyage?
Anything you wish you had or really thought you needed and didn't?

Thanks!

    Looks nice.

It's a little late for my advice. Have you been car camping before? How far in is the hike? How cold will it get at night? What are you bringing to stay warm? Do you have light?

I'm hiking into the Pasayten tomorrow morning to spend a few nights watching the Perseid meteor shower.

Looks very nice! It's hard to beat the views from the mountains.

I'm sure you got gear advice from your friend...Good shoes, better socks & body glide. Take it all in and enjoy there's nothing like it!

I've gone car camping, regular camping, and backpacking... just not combined where I have to carry all my stuff in.
The hike is 15ish miles total. I have polypropylene long johns and a below 0 sleeping bag. I have a couple small flashlights and a lantern for lighting.

I'll have to check into where you are going. :)

So my advice is usually that your first trip like this should be like 1/2 mile at most from the car. Far enough to have to carry everything you need in, in one trip, but close enough to make an easy retreat if things don't go your way. (Like if it gets too cold, the weather is terrible, you forgot something vital, etc.) But you're committed.

What are you doing for food? I think we're mostly going to eat freeze dried backpacker food. But I got a few fancy honey peanut butter packs to put in our oatmeal, breakfast is hard for me to get down to begin with and that's some calories and protein in the morning.

Here's a picture from the last time I spent a night in the Pasayten Wilderness. This time we might cross the border and visit your country for lunch.

@NorthCascades I actually am a Washingtonian lol my friend is from BC.

Yeah, I guess we decided to go big or go home. lol
I've got freeze dried foods and some granola and protein bars. Oh, and some energy gels.

That looks beautiful. I definitely will have to check that out. We are trying to work towards the Wonderland Hike.

Oh and I'm so excited for the meteor shower!!
