Is their anyone that weighs 300 pounds out there?

I weigh 300 pounds and working on getting to 150 slow and steady. I have started walking but I am so out of shape so even that is a workout in itself. How did anyone else get started moving more?

Walking everyday for at least 30 min will really help you in moving more! I got a Fitbit and it changed my life & my health because I could actually see my progress.
Also drink tons of water to help flush out water weight & toxins!

Forget the exercise, weigh and record everything you eat and make sure you eat at a deficit.
I've lost 141 lbs since Xmas and I am very sedentary ..... Well I was.... More active now because I feel much better.
Contrary to what shows like the biggest loser want you to think, losing weight has very little to do with exercise and everything to do with calories in v calories out.
Once you start feeling better you will want to get more active on your own.

My doctor wants me moving more, I bought a Fitbit and didn't realize how much I don't move. I have a friend that goes to the gym daily. I am thinking I should go and use the recumbent bike and treadmill. I doubt I would last very long but I could stop and rest I guess. I am 59 but doctor said I am fine to exercise1

I'm at 332. Yes, it's a chore to workout, but the more you walk the easier it gets. Basically, it doesn't even have to be walking. Move more, sit less. Any movement is good. I'm trying to get to 150 too.
The more you lose, the easier it gets to move around. So don't look to kill the 26 mile marathon tomorrow....but if you want to find one in a year and set that for a goal and start training - that might be an idea!3 -
While I respect your doctors opinion and it is good to exercise and move around. I know at our weights it can be painful on the joints. If he is saying he wants you to get more exercise as a way to lose weight, I would respectfully dispute his advice.
There is nothing that says you can't do both, the exercise will make you feel better and stronger and tone you and give you more stamina, and watching your calories in v calories out will help you lose weight to feel better and make it easier and more enjoyable to exercise.
As you get closer to your goal weight, obviously exercise becomes much more important, but with 150lbs to lose, it's secondary to actually losing weight.4 -
Hi all. In June I weighed in at a whopping 381 pounds. I was whining to my coworker about eating healthy and exercising... Long story longer we started SLOWLY walking during our 30 min lunch break. Today I was so excited we did our very first 19 minute mile. In July I truly started eating healthy and tracking calories with my fitness pal. I am now down 18 pounds and feeling so much stronger.
Remember everyone is different. Some can get away with no exercise and fewer calories. Some of us can not. And as Cebreisch said don't try to do a marathon tomorrow. Maybe tomorrow it's just walking to the mail box or the end of the street and back!

I started at 340. Down to 328 now. Biggest thing start now. I have done local small hiking trail for 30 minutes as well as weight lifting. Do I have to stop? Yes. A lot. But every time I go I push myself to go a little further.
But. The biggest thing that has helped is nutrition. Since changING my eating it has meant everything. 12 pounds so far in one month4 -
I'm currently at 300 on the dot, but at the start I was around 365 [about 40 pounds of that was water]. The thing that got me started was pure motivation. Back then I couldn't even walk due to a drug allergy [apparently statins can rarely cause severe muscle loss]. I never liked being waited on hand and foot, so I pushed myself to get stronger and regain what I lost. I lost quite a bit of weight along the way.
I've always been like that. Two years earlier I had been put on medical leave due to gangrene and wasn't expected to be able to work until the end of June, but my stubbornness for not wanting to stay in a walker longer than needed pushed me hard and I was healed enough to work four months sooner than expected.4 -
I started at 301 two yrs ago at age 59. I couldn't walk more than 1/4 mile without severe foot hip & knee pain. I started walking as much as I could with rest stops. I did strength training with s personsl trsiner. My goal was to walk 1 mile without stopping within a year. I achieved that within a few months. Now I've lost 145 lbs and within 6 lbs of my goal. I started running this spring & can run more than 2 miles without stopping. So just do what you can & take small steps everyday. Your journey will be different than mine but you will get there.
Ps. Exercise is very important for health & well being. At our age I strongly encourage you to do it, even though technically you don't have to to lose weight. You won't regret it11 -
A month 1/2 ago I couldn't walk far at all but I kept going slowly. Now I can walk 2 miles several times a week on hiking trails.
Get good shoes and start walking, you don't have to go fast just do 30 min. Next thing you know you will be doing several miles.
Go to the mall early in the morning and walk if weather is an issue.

Walking is a perfect exercise for heavy people. Some of those who were never morbidly obese don't realize how hard of a workout it is. It's equivalent to carrying a 100+ lb bag and walking around with it. Not easy, and burns a lot of calories.
You don't need a gym. Just walk around the block. As long as it gets your heart rate up and you are breathing faster, it's a good workout. When it stops tiring you as much, you could add speed. When that stops being a good workout you could add incline (walk uphill). When that becomes too easy either walk steeper hills or climb stairs. You could go a long way in terms of cardio with just walking.
When I started I weighed more than 300 pounds and walking was all I did. Only recently have I introduced running 2-3 times a week after losing a good amount of weight, but I still get a good burn from walking an incline.
Start slow, do what feels reasonably hard to you but not too hard to be unsustainable, increase your intensity via speed/incline as you get fitter and you will do fine on the cardio front.6 -

Im at 19st10 which is around 276. I have a garmin but it doesnt register walking with a pram so started tucking into my socks so more accurate. Struggle with food planning sticking to it and over coming low moods. But as you said slow but steady. Good luck X0

I was 285lbs when I started. Walking was hard, really hard. The first walk I went on, I had to stop every 400-500 yards for a rest. I was red, hot, sweaty and very uncomfortable.
But I kept at it, and it got easier. I then started using a recumbent bike on an athletics track and that was hard as well. four or five laps (just about a mile) and I was finished. But it got easier.
That was a year ago. I have now "graduated" to a normal bike and think nothing of cycling 20 miles in one session. Walking - I can walk and walk and walk (I think that the longest walk I did was 10 miles but the children were with me and moaning) and not get tired, hot or sweaty. I haven't graduated to jogging or running as I don't feel comfortable doing it - in my mind I am still a huge person who would be laughed at by others if I tried. Maybe one day . . .
I think that the benefits of exercise are amazing. I am the fittest and healthiest I have ever been in my entire life and it is a fabulous feeling.
But my overall message is that I started out small and gradually increased it little by little. A bit more and a little more. I'm still increasing my bike rides as I find it satisfying to go further, or faster, or over hillier terrains. Increasing the walking is a bit more challenging as the children can't keep up/moan too much for my liking5 -

Hi! I started at 310+ and also have a goal of 150. Currently at 261, down 49 lbs.
I agree totally with the logging and weighing food. I also eat leaps and bounds better than I did. 98% being vegetables, lean proteins and healthy dairy. I just started walking, mowing whatever would get me moving, for as long as I could handle. It does get easier the more weight you drop. I have also been discussing my weight in therapy, mine was very emotionally/psychologically related. I have a long way to go and it's a slow road, but I didn't gain it over night either. I've currently hit my first "plateau" so I'm trying to vary my exercise and rotate in some different foods to see if that helps. I know it is hard, but better late than never. I had my wake up call one morning getting ready for work; having chest pains. That was the tipping point for me. I don't want to die at 40-45 years old. Good luck to you! I started way over 400 pounds. I am currently just over 320 pounds. I've lost over 140 pounds my main exercise has been simply walking around. I started out there were able to walk a mile. It took about 30 minutes. Now I walk 3 miles in just under an hour. it has taken two-and-a-half years to get to this point5

Started at 368, currently 307.
If it hurts you to do certain exercises, don't do them. I hurt my knees (only in my 20's) trying to do jumping jacks at my highest weight.
That being said, I'm all for walking! I walk several miles a day, with my Fitbit encouraging me, and it's really helped. Good luck!1 -

Sounds like a good plan Please be careful not to push yourself too hard when you're just getting started. Slow and steady wins the race.
I started at a lower weight than you did, but have bad knees - official diagnosis is "pain with activity." I started out walking 20 minutes and slowly worked my way up to 75 minutes plus hills.
I prefer to get my cardio outdoors. Pavement is too hard on my knees - trails in the woods are perfect. I have Asics Gel which my orthopedic surgeon brother-in-law said were a good choice.
I also try to not sit for too long. Sometimes I am purposefully inefficient. For example, instead of taking out the trash and recyclables and picking up the mail in one trip, I will make three. Having a tiny bladder and drinking lots of fluid helps with this as well
How are you doing with your FitBit? Mine has certainly encouraged me to be more active.1 -
Everyone is great, a couple of weeks ago I hired a trainier and want a big mustang I couldn't walk for 4 days he about killed me.
I love my Fitbit but I am not moving much 2000 steps is a good day. I live in the country so I have all kinds of places to walk. Not sure what my problem is I rather take a nap. I am working on that0 -
Do u have a friend or coworker that you see daily? Ask that person if they will go for a short walk with you. Be brutally honest with that person about what u want to achieve. After talking with my coworker we found that we both have the same goals. She is more consistent and disciplined when it comes to exercise so it really helps me with accountability. It took 30 to 45 days but I look forward to our walks now. I go on my own when she is not able and I feel cheated when I don't get to walk.

I don't have all the answers but I have been trying to lose with all the wrong ways since I was 12. I will be 46 in two weeks and I am confident this is my last birthday over 300 pounds!!!!

I started at 350 and am now at 290, but to be honest while I try to get more steps in everyday, I haven't really started an exercise program just yet. For losing weight, the nutrition is the most important thing. Exercise helps make you healthier (and also allows you to eat more) but you cannot out-exercise a terrible diet.
And while folks should strive to do both together for optimal health, lowering our weights will hopefully allow us to move more.1 -
Lots of good advice. I only have one suggestion to add - tracking the progress helps. If it's walking, tracking the steps and amount of time each day. and try for just a small increase each day. I ride a stationary bike everyday and find it very rewarding to see the increase in time and miles on my chart. I started only doing 20 minutes a day and am already up to 50 minutes by slowly increasing the time and intensity each day or every few days depending on how I am progressing.3

Hi, I've found walking to be an amazing energy boost for me. Sometimes I walk on a bike path close to my house. I'll listen to techno- it keeps my pace up. If the weather is crummy or I don't want to take the kids, I'll do leslie sansone. She has a variety of videos that are great for beginners I started at 314 and am currently 270, HW 332. Keep at it! Just start somewhere, even 15 minutes a day, get your HR up! You will feel empowered and stronger physically and mentally! Good luck on your journey ♡1

My sophomore year of high school I was over 300 lbs. I started eating right, drinking water, and doing at home walking videos. I lost 125 lbs in a year. Granted, now I'm up to 317 and I'm starting this journey over. But walking is a great place to start. Like a few others have said, start slow. Just get moving more.
