I started out my first month doing an hour of cardio a day and strength training twice a week. I lost 20 lbs. Then I went on vacation and pulled an abdominal muscle. Didn't realize how serious it was at the time until I came home. I've been laying off exercise ever since. I have aggravated the injury at least twice since then. I lost 10 lbs last month without exercise which was great, but I don't want to slim down without building muscle tone. What can I do?

I know it might not be the sort of burn ext you want but try walking. if u go at a good pace it can give a nice little burn better that nothing and shouldnt cause any more damage. Hope your back to normal soon and well done with the lose so very very impressive :) x

Well I bought an HRM and pedometer. I have been trying to get the 10,000 steps a day. Somedays are better than others those. Thanks for the advice. Will walking really help build muscle tone? I thought it just burned calories.

Dont worry about muscle tone just yet it will come walk until you feel better. If you can still do leg strength exercises do it, the largest muscle are there and will help burn even more calories.

Running builds better tone than simple walking, because running is a more rigorous activity that tends to involve your entire body. However, a fast jog or an extensive bike ride can achieve the same results.

If you have a personal gym or some such access to one, individualy work on muscle groups. Tire either your upper or lower body every alternating day. For example, monday, do arm curls with a five pound weight (five sets of 15 reps), work witha pulldown down, and perform some arm raises all on Monday. Rest overnight, and your muscles can repair and catch up on Tuesday while you perform calf raises and etc.

I agree with this. Keep up with your meal plan and keep moving. Is it a particular type of exercise that is aggrivating it? When you know you have an injury the key to remember is if it unnaturally hurts, don't do it, give it a couple of weeks to heal.

Well it's been a month. I have reinjured doing different things. I'm not sure that lifting as a previous poster suggested is a good idea because further damage could lead to a hernia. The exercise isn't necessarily aggravating it but the extra work on the muscles tire them making them more susceptible to re-injury.
