Adding Exercise v Step Counting

Hi, I have a Garmin Vivofit which counts my steps and syncs to My Fitness Pal with the adjustment for calories.
Should I be logging exercise on top of that. Go dog walking each morning for 45 mins and do other exercise in top of that.
Don't want to go way over my calorie intake or I'll lose nothing.

    What is the other exercise?

I would guess steps/calories from dog walking shouldn't be added back. But some forms of exercise register on fitness trackers pretty well and others don't (e.g., kettlebell workouts can burn a fair number of calories but don't register almost at all on my Fitbit One).

I know with my Fitbit I have "negative calories" enabled, meaning if I log more calories burned than my fitbit says, the fitbit gives me a negative calorie adjustment (i.e. takes away some of the calories I logged manually).

It would really depend on what the extra exercise is. If it's step based like walking, no. If it's swimming or cycling, yes.
