Protien powder and HOT food/drink?! A no-go? Help!

I heard that protein powder (I use some whey but mostly egg-white based protein) breaks down and doesn't have as much protein (or somthing like that) when mixed into hot foods or drinks? I like to mix it in oatmeal and hot coffee so if anyone knows any truth to this, let me know! Thanks :)

    I know oatmeal was horrid if I cooked whey with it. My nickname for the concoction was "gruel". But if I mixed the powder in to the cooked oatmeal it tasted just fine.

    Yea.. best to mix the protein so that it is liquid at room temperature and slowly add to a hot mixture until it the right balance.. you can reheat it again if you need to!

    Add fluid to your protein powder first. Don't add it as powder.

    Hello Jessica,
    The nutritional profile should not be affected by the temperature. You will find that there’s numerous recipes that call for protein powder to be used in baking and hot liquids.

    The one thing that could be affected is the activity of the enzyme blend. (could possibly decrease at temps around 120 +)
    The enzyme blend is added at a small amount to help with breaking down protein and possible traces of starches.

    Protein powder breakdown when mixed into something hot? I doubt it. If you cook eggs, chicken, steak etc does it lose it's protein content when it hits high temperatures? Lez be reel nahhh

    I have used it in homemade pudding with no problem - added a scoop to the sugar, cocoa, & cornstarch and then stirred in the milk and eggs. (My husband is trying to GAIN weight!)

    Yea you probably heard about denaturing protein. Does not impact the nutritional value at all. Best write up I read on it was from the blog ProteinPOW (if you google that, it will come up for sure)- AWESOME high protein recipes there too.

    I mixed it with diet sugar free hot chocolate all winter, and I don't think it affected the nutrition content. It did cause issues with clumping though...it didn't dissolve as well. Still drank it lol
